Issue with AI Magic Mask 2 Not Tracking in Resolve 20

PostThu Jun 05, 2025 9:37 am

I've recently installed the new DaVinci Resolve 20 and I'm experiencing an issue with the updated AI Magic Mask 2. When I try to track objects using the Magic Mask, it doesn't work at all.

The timeline remains red instead of turning blue after tracking.

When I add dots to select an object, nothing is selected or tracked.

The system appears unresponsive, and the mask doesn’t activate or follow the object.

I’ve tried restarting Resolve, trying out the old version of Magic mask. Still, the problem persists.

Is this a known issue, or is there a workaround?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To assist, anyone will need to know, your exact OS version, and exact GPU model as a starting point.

I'm seeing something similar on my laptop (Intel ARC 140, see signature), the first time I track something, it does not work (or at least the initialization takes so long that I don't have the patience to wait it out, minutes..). The "Tracking" pop-up appears but the FPS and time remaining elements do not appear. If I then cancel out of the tracking, the second time (after a delay when something is going on in the background) tracking starts. Are you seeing any of these symptoms?

One other observation is that the tracker highlight is hard to see, especially on elements that are reddish/warn, you might have it enabled/have elements selected but not really recognize that something is selected.

EDIT: Seems to be related to insufficient space on my Davinci Cache SSD. Everything's working again for now.

I am having the same Issue since today. It used to work flawlessly (slow perhaps), but today, even in my existing project, I cannot use the magic mask anymore on any clips.

Observed issue as described above:
- adding magic mask points will lead to nothing being selected
- tracking will lead to a red tracking timeline and doesn't do anything essentially (feels sluggish)

Tested in other and older projects, new projects, rec709 files instead of vlog.
I also downgraded to a beta version of v20, still no change. I re-optimzed the neural engines too.

Magic Mask v1 still works.

inverted selection - the entire frame is red. Note the red tracking bar.
