Enhance FX Warper: Add Bloat Controls to Warp Points

PostWed May 21, 2025 1:58 am

Currently, the FX Warper in DaVinci Resolve allows users to reposition mesh warp points to distort an image. These deformations are useful, but limited to direct mesh manipulation — meaning each point only shifts pixel position based on the grid, without any radius of influence or localized distortion like bloat or pinch.

I’d love to see the FX Warper enhanced with two additional ring controls on each warp point:
• Size Ring – to define the area of influence around the point
• Bloat Ring – to adjust the intensity and direction of distortion (positive for bloat, negative for pinch)

This would make it possible to achieve subtle reshaping and organic distortions right inside the FX Warper, particularly useful for tasks like facial refinement, body shaping, or stylized VFX.

It would eliminate the need for external plugins or redundant OFX stacking, while unlocking new creative flexibility within the Resolve ecosystem.

This evolution would bring the FX Warper closer to industry standards seen in high-end retouching tools and could be a game-changer for both beauty and creative workflows.

Bump — Is there any other way in Resolve to easily bloat or warp points? The Warper FX is already super useful, and adding more precise point-based warping (like bloat/pinch) would make it even better.

I’m trying to keep my entire workflow inside this amazing all-in-one tool and would love to avoid jumping back into After Effects just for this. Huge thanks to the devs and community—Resolve has come so far!

Pushing points in various directions works well, but trying to push inward or outward evenly around a single point is extremely difficult. In theory, you could manually create a ring of points and push them outward, but in practice, it’s messy and imprecise. A pucker and bloat functionality feels like a natural and much-needed upgrade to the Warper.

Real-World Uses for Bloat & Pinch in DaVinci Resolve

1. Enhance Eye Size for Beauty Work
Subtle bloat can make eyes more expressive in portraits or glamor shots.

2. Slim Cheeks or Jawline
Pinch to sculpt facial structure without tracking or masking.

3. Correct Facial Asymmetry
One-click adjustments to even out subtle differences in face shape.

4. Add Weight or Fullness to Body Contours
Bloat hips, chest, or shoulders to improve proportions for fashion or fitness work.

5. Reduce Clothing Wrinkles or Gaps
Pinch loose fabric around waistlines or arms for a more tailored look.

6. Fix Hair Puffiness or Cowlicks
Pinch flyaways or bloated hair areas for a neater appearance.

7. Correct Object Distortion from Wide Lenses
Bloat/pinch to fix furniture, signage, or product shapes distorted by angle or lens.

8. Creative Morph or Surreal Effects
Push features into uncanny or exaggerated zones for stylized looks.

I have gotten a chance to work with the new Warper in DaVinci Resolve 20. I love the improvements made to the OFX, The curves warp mode is great and has made the warper suitable for even more situations!
I can still see pucker and bloat functionality being added, perhaps as another mode or integrated into the pins placed in each mode with a ring around them that can be dragged inward or outward to pucker and bloat, and a second ring to change the scale of the initial pucker/bloat point.
