Unwanted things end up in power bins

I noticed if I drag new media to my timeline, and I have a power bin open, the media gets added there, and some time later when im going through power bins to search for what I want, It has random stuff that I don't want there.

Not sure if theres already a way around this, but id like if power bins only added things I DRAG into it.

Well yeah I want that changed so it doesn't do that with power bins. Quality of life update.
I don't see how this current behaviour is beneficial in any way. Nobody imports media onto the timeline because they want it in their power bin. If they want it in the power bin, they'd drag it into the power bin.

I don't know that for sure. It's a nice option for anyone who wants it.

It's just how it works. It's not going to change. Imported media must go into a bin and Resolve puts all imported media into the currently selected bin. Dragging from the OS to the timeline is an import therefore a bin MUST be selected by the user for the import. This behaviour is consistent across all import methods. There are use cases for importing to a Power bin, even if you can't imagine them.

I get that Resolve needs to assign imported media to a bin, but it does not have to go into a power bin, because the media being in the project does not depend on whether or not the media is in a power bin. It already gets added to the master media bin even if you have a selected powerbin PLUS it adds it to the powerbin itself (which again, is not necessary).

There isn't a single downside to this suggestion, or at least anything that you said that would make your or anybodys work harder if this was to change, im kinda confused why you are against it.
And theres a clear upside, being that you never accidentally get random stuff into your power bins.

I mean overall, I don't know what's with people here always saying "its just how it works, work with it" as if things aren't allowed to update or change for the better. See it so often on the forums here. Like are you guys the developers and are saying no to try to have as little work to do?

Here's how it should work IMO:
If you drag new media over the timeline, ignore power bins and don't add it to them if they are open.
But if you drag new media over the power bin, then don't ignore it and add it to the power bin.

I never said I was against your suggestion. I'm just pointing out how & why it works this way. Why is selecting a destination for importing media an issue for you? Normally one would select a bin THEN import or drag from OS to timeline. This prevents all media from being lumped together in the Master Bin and assists in staying organised. I have no issue with this request. You seem very sensitive to people suggesting that you modify your approach while waiting for your feature request to be implemented, which may never happen.

I'm with OP on this. I am always losing media because I import it straight to the timeline... for speed... but don't slow down to click out of whatever bin I last used. If I want the media in a bin... I'll put the media in a bin. I've never spent time clicking around bins and said, "Wow, that saved time."

THAT said, IMO dragging to the timeline should put the media into an 'unsorted' bin and it should also copy the media to a specified folder to avoid offlining when pulling media from an external drive.

Yeah Imo for dragging media directly to the timeline, it should just go to the root of the Master bin, and not any specific bin.

Also one more thing that annoys me that I suggested was to automatically sort fusion/compound clips to pre-selected bins when creating them, instead of them also going into the currently selected bin. And for compound clips even If I remember to select the bin, I cannot select it if im in the "name your compound clip" window. So I have to close it, and select the bin, and then click to compound clip again.
