Lock clip in time

PostTue Jun 17, 2025 10:48 am

It would be useful to be able to ‘lock a clip in time’ so it can be moved between tracks without fear of changing its precise timing or to stop it from being accidentally nudged etc.

Hey Terry
In case you missed it and in case it helps, you can prevent horizontal movement of any clip when moving it between tracks by holding down the Shift key. There is also an existing Edit page timeline 'Position Lock' function that locks all timeline clips in place (in the Edit page), whilst still allowing you to trim extents, add effects and modify keyframes etc.
Cheers

Hi Andy, many thanks, I didn't know about pressing the Shift key when moving clips between tracks that's really useful. I could not find the timeline 'Position Lock' option, it may be a studio only option.

Hmm, don't think its Studio only, but I could certainly be wrong ... for me (using Studio) the Position Lock button is here:

Thanks. It is on the non-studio version. It changes all the track lock symbols to red, and as you say is different from the other lock mode (when the symbol is white) in that you can still perform a few operations on the clip(s).
