Single toggle key for Selection and Trim Edit Mode

PostTue Jun 24, 2025 7:00 am

Can we please have a single toggle key to switch between Trim Mode and Selection/Normal Edit Mode.
Assigning 2 shortcuts here is a waste and does not bring any advantages.

Christoph, if there's only a single toggle key and I'm in Blade Edit Mode, how do I switch directly to Trim Edit Mode vs Selection Mode?

Hmm... I never use Blade Edit Mode - so I forgot about that.
I have a shortcut for the Razor - that's sufficient for me.
Maybe the toggle key could just switch back to whatever was active before Blade Edit Mode.

Perhaps I'm too old school, but I don't see any advantage to losing direct keyboard access to the individual modes ... conversely, a single keyboard modifier (eg ALT/OPT) that, while pressed, would temporarily toggle the currently active edit behaviour (from Selection to Trim or vice versa) would be great.

Yeah... the moment I read your first reply, I knew my feature request was dead.

This would be a good alternative (like it is done in AVID).
We already have a similar functionality, where you can press the Trim Edit shortcut while trimming
and it reverts back to Normal Mode after the trim, but I can't get used to press the shortcut after I use the mouse and let it go before I let the mouse go...

I find the current design superior. I vote no change.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

With respect to the suggestion for a single key modifier, Jim, such behaviour would best be implemented in addition to the existing behaviour, so there would be no 'change' for you to deal with.

Related to this idea, my feature request was for a new "User" editing mode which we could fully customize to have all the settings we wanted. I would use this mode exclusively and I see no reason to ever switch to any other editing mode myself. However, for those who love Resolve "exactly as it is" I am proposing it as an additional editing mode and the original editing modes would continue to function exactly as they do now. For anyone who doesn't want to use the new editing mode, you don't have to use it.

Additional "User Defined" Editing Mode:
