Resolve 11.1 and OS X Yosemite ? BMD?

PostFri Oct 17, 2014 3:15 pm

What's the official word from BMD on Resolve 11.1 compatibility and the new version of OS X? I have a window of time before a new project to upgrade 'if' all is well. Oh how I worry with upgrades even when I have solid mirror image of the boot drive - just in case.

That said I do like the new UI. I'm using it on my MacAir.

And the answer from BMD is .... ?

Haha, I'm also waiting on reliability. I got bit badly from the 10.9.3 update breaking Resolve (new Mac Pro, spent days setting it up and installing everything... then updated without making a mirrored backup first. Had to wipe clean and spend days reinstalling...)

Any official word or even first-hand experience from adventurous users would be great!

Installed it on laptop and desktop yesterday. R11.1 worked fine. If there is anything specific you would like checked, let me know.

As an aside, with Yosemite, you can now quickview BM DNG files. For me, that's worth the upgrade in and of itself.

Nothing specific thanks for asking. Mainly - just wanting to know BMD's stance. Like someone said already we've all been bit really bad on upgrades ........

That said. I'm hopeful. I really do like the new interface on my MacAir.

We are happy to recommend OS X Yosemite for Resolve. There are also reports from some nMP D700 users of renders without the previous intermittent image disturbance, although we don't have examples of this in the lab.

Yosemite killed my Resolve. It gives me a message about my CUDA Driver needing an update and then when i try to open a project, it crashes. The thing is my driver IS up to date.

Resolve worked brilliantly before the update to Yosemite.

Any ideas?

(iMac 27" 3.2GHz Intel Core i5, 8Gb RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M 1024MB)

UPDATE: Fixed it. Went to the NVIDIA site and downloaded a newer driver (even though the system preferences said CUDA was up to date). Latest version is 6.5.18 and i'm guessing that if anybody comes across this problem, downloading and installing it should fix it.

What's it like with AMD Graphics Cards? An order for 27" 5K iMac is in the works, which has Yosemite preinstalled.

On the beta, I was getting crashes on my MBP every boot after 30 seconds on my Radeon HD 6750M and Resolve 11.0.

Since upgrading to Yosemite, I cannot deliver any media without this "intermittent image disturbance."

I know this is going to make some scratch their heads a bit: I run Resolve Lite on a late 2013 13" Retina MPB (Intel Iris GPU). However, Resolve was sunning just fine on it and OS X 10.9 Mavericks. I am not sure if the issues are due to OpenGL or a Gremlin pulling cables in the background.

Running nMP D700 Resolve 10.1 after upgrading to Yosmite a simple TIFF to JPEG200 transcode runs at 1fps with 95% CPU used ... terrible

Since upgrading Davinci Resolve Lite the program freezes immediately after the login screen. I get the spinning wheel of death and 'the program is not responding' forcing me to force quit. No warnings or error messages.

Late 2013 iMac, 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7, Recently upgraded to Yosemite.
32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2048 MB

I have also downloaded the newest CUDA driver 6.5.18

Seems that Nvidia OSX web driver and CUDA are not quite playing right yet in 10.10 - hopefully Nvidia solves this soon.

Any application that tries to access CUDA fails. System prefs shows CUDA applet and correction version installed (6.5.18), and latest f03 web driver, but no love. Corroborating reports of this can be found around the interwebz.

I've been playing with the new GTX 970 GPU, and it's pretty amazing in 10.10, but without CUDA it's obviously not production ready Resolve-wise...

Hi Mark,
I'm currently transcoding from XDCAM MXFs to MP4s to create easily viewable dailies with burnt in timecode and clip name. My very new, top shelf 5K iMac is averaging around 28fps, while my 6core D700 Mac Pro is averaging around 23fps using the same Pegasus RIAD set up. Remember that some codecs rely more on GPU, and others are more CPU reliant. So far I am very happy with the new iMac running Resolve.

Resolve 11.1.3, and Mac OS 10.10.1 Yosemite on my mid-2011 iMac 27" doesn't allow me to create a project, and import "Open Gate" size (3424x2202px) ArriRaw files. If I import just one clip, and then try to play the clip, Resolve freezes and crashes. If I import just one clip and try to "save" the project, Resolve crashes. What gives?

This machine has an AMD Radeon HD 6970M GPU with 2048 MB of display memory. With Resolve 11 and the 10.9 OS, things were fine. Now... crashes.
