Native .DNG support in FCP X?

PostSun Feb 15, 2015 7:52 pm

Will there ever be native support/handling of DNG in FCP X like how there is with REDCODE RAW? Or is this out of the question because of Resolve?

Norbert, with the increasing capabilities supporting NLE features in Resolve, and the close link between the two products, I would think FCP X will add that support this year just to keep and possibly broaden their customer base.

I've found support for DNG (and batch processing) is the first thing I look for when considering new applications for editing photographs now the death spiral of Apple's Aperture is about to begin. And new apps are supporting DNG, so why wouldn't FCP X pick it up given the dramatic increase in video cameras capturing in DNG compared to a few years ago? Apple may rightfully love ProRes, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't want to develop digital negatives and use ProRes as the digital intermediate.

Thanks, Rick. I hope they do. (It should have been implemented in late 2013 and now we're into 2015!)

Adjusting metadata (and more) in your NLE is so convenient.

Just like everyone here hoping a BMD camera firmware 2.0 release is chock full of surprises, there's a lot more people expecting something great from the next major release of Final Cut X. Who knows, the timing of both major updates could coincide and not completely accidentally?
