instability using bSpline

PostFri Mar 06, 2015 2:18 pm

fusion v7.7 gets a little crashy when i get pretty deep into adding and moving cv's using the bSpline node for masking. Not sure if i have a problem or if this is something that comes with the territory. Any suggestions for troubleshooting or workarounds would be great.

thanks

I don't have any solutions for you, but I've noticed the same ting. I think there have been some changes in the masks' code. I've noticed some erratic behaviors in 7.7, in comps that seem to work just fine in 6.4.
My specific example was a point on a mask that was animated. It worked and looked fine in the comp, but at render time it would collapse on itself and disappear. (It was confirmed as a bug by support. )

I guess, my suggestion would be, if you can find a reproducible error, send it in. Tech Support might offer a workaround for you.

If you can swing that, it would really help. I know that due to the bug Joël found, that splines will probably be scrutinized for other issues, but certainly having a reproducible comp will make sure that it is found.

Thanks guys.

Reassuring to know the developers are already aware of spline problems.

As a workaround i find that the longer i can postpone entry into 'insert modify' the better.

I will try to isolate the problem this weekend. Hopefully put together a scene that uses a bg instead of the loader i have now.

have a great weekend

attached is a comp that i think demonstrates a reproducible problem. (i've bee wrong about these things before)

it should be enough to quickly add cv's to arbitrary locations alone the curve but i here is a video to show the steps i used:

hth

maybe i should also mention that i work with a wacom ptk-840

Downloaded comp, inserted points as per video, after somewhere between 20-30 insertions fusion crashes. Repeated 5 times.
Confirmed on w7 64b i7-4800MQ 32gig Ram quadroK3100m

Also confirming this issue which started with version 7.x

Modifying BSplines (creating new points or moving existing ones) often leads to a crash as seen in the above video made by ronviers.

Otherwise stable machine with Intel i7 5960X and NVidia GTX 780 Ti
