...

Edit: I chose to delete the quote out of consideration for all.

David - Might I take this opportunity to again remind folks about the "Friends and Foes" lists - a feature of this forum that can be found in the User Control Panel? It allows you to automatically hide posts from people that you have deemed to have a low substance-to-nonsense ratio in their posts.

Having set my foes list quite a while ago, I would not have even seen such an inane comment, had you not quoted it. I'll also thank those here for not quoting such dribble.

Cheers!

Well Christine deleted my comment but kept Taikonauts. So obviously she's concerned with protecting the more discontented element. Good for her!

But alas, Jason. Because you quoted me my shameful slander can still be see. Sorry about that!

Yup, thanks for explaining my comment about being Bloomed...it was all in fun. BlackMagic has been gracious in taking the criticism being thrown at them, and they understand at this point that most of the criticism is justified (and from what I've seen all the criticism is all about the delay, we've come to terms with the other short-comings because the end product appears to be worth it). I know that BM wants to deliver cameras to us, because that's how companies make money. I don't put off delivery to clients, because it means I don't get paid...same thing. I hope they get everything figured out, and I'm sure they will...just a matter of time is all. Frustrating, yes...but where else you gonna get 2.5k BEAUTIFUL Raw for $3k?

David - In essence, that was what I was trying to protect you from. Having seen such posts as you quoted, I was so tempted to comment on them and how useless they were. But, I found the "Friends & Foes" list and it protects me from the temptation to call a spade a spade and, therefore, have my post (perhaps rightly) censored. I have found this forum a much more pleasant place since putting only 4 users on the Foes list.

I understand why Christine (or BMD, in general) does not ban these people. But, I really wish they would be banned for the good of the majority here.

Christine - thank you for your moderation of the board. I suspect your job will get much easier when the BMC is shipping in quantity. Well, perhaps I'm too optimistic, as some people will probably just find something new to whine about. Regardless, thanks for your efforts here!

I strayed looking for 'alternatives' for a few days there then I watched a bunch of the showcase clips (on that other forum).

100% back on the Cinema Camera train. Nothing comes close!

Ikonoskop is GREAT, nice look, nice ergonomic, possibility of using cheap, great 16mm lenses (it's a sensor designed thinking about the lenses). 2 stops of dynamic range sincerely won't make that much difference and 1080 p raw is more than enough!

What's the problem then? it costs 7000 euro! If it'd cost between 3500-4000 no way I'd be here waiting for the BMCC.

And all these "THanks for the no-update", let me tell you guys, sound a little ridicolous. Nothing against Christine, but how there can be NO Update? c'mon, what's the problem? The guys at bm can't pick up the phone?
It really feels like they need a week to invent something new to say, since they're out of tricks...

Wow so your answer is the block your ears and say "I'm not listening, I'm not listening" in a Gollum voice? Very mature... There is nothing wrong with civilised disagreements and if people are being rude you should have a right to speak your mind! Cowering in the corner doesn't help your cause.

If you truly believe that the naysayers are wrong you should man up and speak your mind. Wanting people banned is not the answer... This isn't a dictatorship it's the free world where people can speak their mind and thus have a diplomatic discussion.

as it is also a free world which allows people to cover their ears if they want to: 'if it bothers you: don't listen!'

either way, it's all good.

Actually, this is not a free world and, even if it were, on private property (this forum) you have to respect the rules of the land lord (Blackmagic). It is only by their good graces do we get to opine. Kudos to BMD for having a warts-and-all attitude regarding the discussions herein, providing the tone be civilized.

Wow.. just wow... Yes, even a free world follows rules, for instance the western worlds rules are based on Christian and Old testament rules like "thou shall not kill". I doubt BMD have a "thou shall not bad mouth BMD and give an honest opinion" in their forum sign up terms and conditions.

BMD fanboy rules in order of importance;

1) "thou shall not bad mouth BMD and give an honest opinion"

skip a few

99) BMD are the best and no other company comes close

100) Thou shall not kill.

OK this is waaaaay over the top even for me, but its funny... no?

Hey Rob,

Curious... what do you plan on using the camera for? Does your company shoot as well or are you mainly a post company?

Thanks!

We mainly do post, edit and finish for cinema and broadcast, though in recent months I've been directed short documentaries. Lots of fun.

So, I'm going to use this camera for two things. Mainly to shoot my mini-docs but secondly, if my clients use this in future projects, is to get a sense the workflow and come up with the most efficient way to use it in post. Also, a Resolve license is a plus.

I also looked into the 'Chinese alexa' kineraw-s35 they said they arn't shipping outside of china but the camera gets at best 14 stops with low iso, and 11.5 stops at worst with very high iso.
I'm not too impressed yet by the picture, but no one has really taken the grading to see where it can be pushed.

Actually according to their sales rep.. You can buy a KineRAW S35 directly from Kinefinity and they'll ship it to you.. but if you have any warranty or repair work to be done you have to ship it back to China for the work since at this time they don't have distribution or repair service outside of China.

Have you seen this short shot on the KineRAW S35 by Mathew Allard?

The slo-motion shots were done with an FS700.. but the rest of the film was shot with the S35

that i have, but stated below in the about section: was very lightly graded, just the odd bit of contrast, saturation and black levels changed.

I have yet to see an example of what this camera looks like pushed.

They are diligently working on that. They are concerned with telling us how they got to the finished product that they totally forgot to give us updates.

Anyone interested in a brand new in box SanDisk 480GB Extreme Solid State Drive (SASDSSDX480) with accessory Seagate GoFlex FreeAgent USB 3.0 adapter for 310€. I'm located in Berlin.

Have to switch modes and start looking at a different camera system as I sold everything in expectation for the BMCC arriving a lot sooner.

Cheers, Jamie

Well the F55 with Global shutter is almost 1/4 to half the price of the Alexa which (F5 does not). The Sony guy there (sorry forgot his name) emphatically stated that the F55 was MUCH better than the Alexa when I asked him how they compared... I have not worked with an Alexa, so I cannot comment.

Yeah. It really depends on your needs.

This is legendary salesman joke: "expensive is better".

Here alexa being more expencive but you get my point.
"My product is better" kind of deal.

You have to know your tools and needs, not sales person.

I haven't had hands-on experience with the F5.. but just looking at the stats and the few hands-on videos that are out there.. I would say the F5 is an excellent camera! If I had the money that's the direction I would go as well.. ((I'm trying to convince my work to pick up this camera to replace our aging F-700's))

Costa the MXF wrapper is all great and all but until Avid gets off their @$$ and bring the res up to 4K, this is all moot.
The great thing is that MXF does work with FCPX so maybe a 4K version will.

sadly its HD for Avid still.
Ive been using it for years and thought by now they would have had higher by v6.5.
however it does work decent with AMA and RED files (my workflow).

The great thing is that MXF does work with FCPX so maybe a 4K version will.

I found out about Avid and 4k today... shame:( If I have the external recorder I will shoot 4k but use avid to down res to 2k. Internet is final destination for us anyways.

I'd just shoot 2k and save yourself the memory hassles, workflow and costs then.

I consider avid and sony relatively closed systems to go with.

They can easily force you with lower performance
on bigger price and not compatible with other ecosystems.

Big no no in my book.

I still think Avid is the best editing software out there... by a VERY long way.

then it is really question of taste maybe.

i have always hated the way avid handles stuff converting and messing with your files etc.

yeah you are right, once you start editing it works perfectly. But in my opinion FCP7 is the best editing software ever. Premiere is nice and it eats every codec but for editing I don't find it very stable.

It depends on what you want do with your project.
AVID is a pure broadcast software and I work with in a broadcast center .I hate it...
I will not advice to editing for movies or documentaries
FCP 7 or Premiere is the way to go for me

FCP7 won't be a future solution, I seen FCPX more less = imovie pro

I avid is pretty much the most stable well rounded system. I am not sure how some one can say its not good for movies when I am sure that is has edited more movies then any other editing system on the planet. I love avid, I use symphony, how ever I do hate the lack of 2k and 4k support within. they need to step up right now... :?

About to hit 16 years as a professional editor in March next year.

I've used every NLE from ImMIX Video Cube, Media 100, Discreet Edit, Avid Media Composer and Final Cut Studio to iMovie and Windows Movie Maker. I've sliced 16mm film on a Magnasync M50, cut my teeth on 3/4" and BetacamSP with a For-A EC780 controller and a Video Toaster 2000 (and 4000!). I even cut music videos on flying erase head consumer VHS decks -- every cut sync'd manually -- before I was trained and started getting paid.

From a class in high school to working at FOX and Univision affiliates and ad agencies to owning and operating my production company, I can say with absolute certainty that Final Cut Pro is the best editing software for me. I will also say that X is my favorite version, though you absolutely need Compressor if you plan on delivering for broadcast. X has a long way to go, but it is much more than "iMovie Pro."

And to tell you the truth: there's nothing wrong with iMovie. Any cutter worth their salt can kick out an offline with a free editor. You can even export an XML EDL when you're done, so there's no excuse except laziness.

Well since we are all bored and waiting for this thing with BMD to turn out, we can start an argument on which NLE is best ;)
But I wont go there.
I for one have been cutting all my personal R3Ds with FCPX.
I am biased since I teach it at local college.
I do have "too many" years with Avid and Premiere under my belt.
I am obviously bored with Avid.
Symphony 6.5 upgrade from MC didnt quite spark things up for me.
I thought it was the holy grail of Avid soft, boy was I wrong :P
