Fun in the snow with ProRes

Shot on a bare bones Blackmagic Cinema Camera, with Canon 17-40 f4 L glass (that doesn't talk to the camera yet - so everything wide open) in ProRes.

Nice video.. I have that same lens.. hopefully when my camera ships it will have the latest firmware updates and the camera will control the lens..

I specially liked the last shot where lack of light generates pleasant film like grain.

I loved it, great to see the BMC withstand temperatures of 0*c

Any issues with the camera and snow? (i.e. moisture, cold etc.?)

I'm guessing the CPU is loving the cold air intake

Insane conditions camera wise

It's really nice to see this while waiting to hear a word. Thank you for your thoughtfulness.

It would be satisfying to put together a story with nice shots such as this. I love the wonderful background... just need a small simple story, audio gear and a few actors... no more boredom!

I want this camera so much. Need it, even. I have so many shots of my T2i/550D covered in mud and sand from shooting in the surf...not that anyone's recommending we shoot so recklessly, mind you. Frank, nice little video, again! Thanks for showing us what the raw potential of the BMCC is...no pun intended. I have the same lens...it's nice to see the two in harmony.

Beautiful, the atmosphere, the colors, the lights. Well chosen soundtrack.

About the humidity in the lens and the camera body, had no problems after?
Do you filmed something in Cinema DNG or just in Apple Pro Res?

Nice work Frank. I prefer this grade. I like the fact that the blues are back. Feels more alive.

I like this one too, I have a tenancy to see a blue hue on snow covered scenes.

So whats next, underwater tests anyone? haha

Wow, it seems to withstand quite a bit of moisture as well. What's the coldest environment you've tested the camera in so far?

Really nice footage. Some of the first footage with the camera that I've seen that has filmic style and composition from a creative standpoint. Thanks for sharing.

Wonderful improvement over the earlier grade. You have such a keen eye that gives an apparently ordinary scene extraordinary satisfaction.

I have to say that I just came back from a shoot at -10 degrees and after two hours the camera started to shot exposure problems like parts of the cmos sensor where scanned with different exposure, I need to do more tests to see if it's the camera or the lens. I will make a report as soon as I can. I saw the rushes in DNG and the flickers are present. Is not a good sign.

What kind of conditions were you in?

I just spent a whole Sunday afternoon at -32 windchills (in and out) shooting with a Scarlet.
The bonus about that RED is that you get a nice heat blast when running in standby.

This production is such an awesome display of what this camera is truly capable of.

Did the problem correct itself after going back to room temperature?

I spent 3 hours in a cold night at -10 degrees. The camera sat on a tripod the whole time. After an hour I placed the external battery switronix in my coat. The ventilation of the camera didn't stop as it seems there is no thermometer in there to gage when to ventilate. Anyway, I spent Two hours yesterday trying to fix the exposure flikering, without great results. I will try to make the problem rise again and isolate the problem before actually presenting it on the web, let's hope it's a lens, battery problem.

It will be a matter of managing the thermal profile of the sensor for cold ambient conditions. The Red One when first brought to Canada had major issues in the cold.
