Resolve VST

PostMon Jul 27, 2015 6:06 pm

Hi Guys!

How to make it appear in AudioFX?
Where do i need to install it? 32bit/64bit?
How to make it work?

Already installed hundreds of vst plugs (i'm sound engineer) but Resolve can't see them.

Same problem, although they are 32bit. Was hoping to avoid the Protools and Vegas detour.

Would also like to know how to get Resolve to find missing plugins. My Waves plugins aren't showing though some of my other plugins are there.

So where does Resolve expect to find our VST folders?

Waves is in one shell.dll. I guess it's a reason. Which plugins are visible?

Thanks. It works now!
There is some bugs like resetting fabfilter pro-q when playback starts.
But it works, and i'm sure i'll be able to find workarounds.

p.s. Changing settings while playing back helps to avoid resetting.
Parameters stay the same even after next pressing play button.

Looks like it is some sort of wrong interpretation of midi signal. Maybe it is only resolve vs fabfilter bug

Loving Resolve 12 a lot so far... trying to switch all my editing work as well that why I'm so happy about VST support, especially Waves would be important to have show up!

yeah, 12 isn't finding my VST 64 bit waves plug-ins either. There in the proper folder, I've been reading the threads. ;)
Other than that, It's been great working with 12. :D

Hi!

I really wish you could specify your VST folder like with any other DAW or NLE.

I have the C drive (an SSD) specifically reserved for the OS and install everything else elsewhere (which lets face it is totally usual for anyone who takes their workstation seriously). All my other software and data is on my A drive and having to move all my VST's to the C drive because Resolve wont scan a custom folder just gets messy and I'll be honest, totally throws a spanner in the works with me considering Resolve as a viable NLE.

I hope this can be considered a feature request if anyone from BMD sees this.

Thanks!

Eugene,

I have Wave plugins, too. I use them in Logic - in a directory that Resolve is not finding. Curious ... did the solution listed by Peter work for you? Did you have to do anything special other than copy the Waves folder structure over to the folder Peter mentions above? I am on a nMP.

Thanks for cluing me in if you found a solution :)

Would be very nice to have an "auto locate" function for all VST and AU plugins in the future. Perhaps, this is something that could implemented later. It would make life easier for editors so that these VST and AU plugins stay in one location rather than having to copy them. Similarly, it would be nice down the road to have an AU and VST manager so that the user could remove VSTs or AUs that cannot be used in Resolve. For example, Resolve "found" plugin instruments and lists them, but did not find my Wave plugins and those are the one's I need to use. Thanks.

Waves plug-ins are located in three places on Macs and utilize VST and AU:

1. Library/Plug-Ins/VST/VST3. This is a standard location for DAWs (i.e., Logic, Protools, etc.)

2. Library/Audio/Components folder. This is a standard location for DAWs (i.e., Logic, Protools, etc.)

3. The actual plug-Ins are located in the Applications folder where the utility files and InterLok information is kept.

I can now see why Resolve is not loading-up Waves Plug-ins. It's not looking in the above-listed locations where Waves plug-Ins are suppose to function.

Will it possible for this to be address at some point?

Are VST audio plug-ins included with Davinci Resolve 12 Studio beta 3?

(A search doesn't find them on my Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit OS/app drive, and they don't appear within DR12b3 Studio w. dongle.)

Thanks for all that great info. Much appreciated.

Since VST plug-ins are mentioned in the R12b3 beta docs, might they or something similar be included with Resolve 12 at some point? Or is this an error in the docs?

An advantage of a plug-in shipping with Resolve is that there's perhaps a better chance it's tested and compatible.

Apologies if this has been discussed before.

I'd be very surprised if Resolve comes with any native VSTs (in 12 anyway) - I figure BMD's devs have enough on their hands just finishing off this release (and there's probably not a lot of audio software development experience on the dev team) - you never know though, perhaps they'll make a deal with someone like iZotope or ToneBoosters to include some basic audio processing functionality..?

If you go to Davinci Resolve, Preferences, Audio, you can add new folders for vst effects.

Or you can use aliases to have them in different places without filling space.

I've followed Peter's instructions and R12 isn't locating the audio plug-ins. I'm on R12 beta v1, Windows XP (64 bit). I'm reluctant to apply the beta v4 patch in case it deletes the film project I've been working on.

Also, I can't see which folder Resolve saves the project files in? That'd be useful to know so I can do a backup of my film project file first before patching R12 from v1 to v4.

I may be overly cautious but I've spent hours editing the film and colour-correcting it so I don't want to lose everything because of a potential bug in R12 beta v1.

It'd be good if we were able also to export audio only if literally the only thing that needs doing in a different programme is the audio.

Audio playback IS much improved in R12 but as things stand, I'll still have to export into Vegas or other NLEs.

Did anybody here manage to load/use Waves in Resolve 12 yet?

I have tried everything and while Resolve loads all the other VSTs fine that are located in the same folder it still completely "ignores" the Waves one :(
(I'm on 64bit Windows)

Guess we have to wait for some kind of compatiblity fix...

I think you have to convert your waveshells to individual dll files to make it work in DR

If i have to guess based on behavior on OSX, where i see and can use all my waves plugins as audio units only but nothing as yet as vst, it probably still will not work on vst in windows either. (Correct me if i am wrong ).
In general though vst support seems to be slightly improving and more and more show up as working. Waves uses think funky waveshell so that could be an issue in adoptation by resolve.

Now with Version 14 (beta8) Waves Plugins are working perfect in Resolve.

Under Windows 10 just add the folder (under preferences -> Audio Plugins)
C:\Program files (x86)\Waves\WavesShellsV9

and restart Resolve. On my System it works perfectly :)
