XML import logs?

PostFri Nov 20, 2015 6:08 am

In version 11, after an XML import, the report screen where missing files are listed can be resized, making it easy to do a screen capture (if there aren't too many missing files).

In version 12.x, the report screen cannot be resized and it's hard to get a useful listing of missing files this way.

  • Request, can this screen be made to be resizable, as it was in v 11?
  • More importantly, is this log stored anywhere that I can retrieve it, so I can inform my client about which files are missing?

You can view the Import and Export log info by right clicking the timeline icon in the Media Pool area of the Edit page, and selecting Timelines, then Show Log, then Import Log or Export Log.

The log is not discretely stored anywhere, but the items you see in the view window are in the ResolveDebug.txt and davinci_resolve.log files in the Resolve log files area. You could copy and paste from there.

Thank you, Dwaine! I did not know about viewing the Import and Export Logs via the timeline icon in the media pool. Unfortunately, though, when I select either log, nothing happens; no view window is created and I don't see the log information. Any idea why it's not working? I tried both on the edit page and Media page.

I was able to retrieve the list from davinci_resolve.log, which solves my issue for now. Thanks!

The Show Log only shows you info about the last XML/AAF/EDL imported.

If you have multiple timelines, the log info is not related to a specific timeline. It's just the last thing imported.

If you log in as a different user, and import an XML, then go back to the original user and select Show Log, it will show you the log that the different user imported.

If you restart the Resolve app, there will be no info in Show Log.

That explains it, I'd restarted Resolve since doing the import I was trying to get information about.

Thanks for the information, very helpful!

I didn't realize that you could recall the Import Error window again after it was dismissed, so this is a nice tip.

However, it doesn't solve the problem of being able to view or export that log to a standard text file, so it can be emailed, viewed or parsed in an external app.

At the very least, you should be able to "Select All" in the window, and copy/paste everything into a text file, but this currently doesn't work, because it only copies whatever line you initially selected before you did the "Select All" keyboard shortcut, and not the entire log view.

Because the "Import Log messages as markers" option only appears to work with AAF imports, and not XMLs, there is no way to easily view and export a list of all the import errors.

Please enable Select All copying to the Import error window at the very least!
