London Snowfall BMCC test shot

PostSun Jan 20, 2013 5:17 pm

Hi everyone,

It snowed all day in London today. I live on the 7th floor of a building in East London and there is currently some scaffolding that was put up to change the windows, so I decided to climb out my window and take my tripod and BMCC out there to take some test shots.

The lens I used was a Carl Zeiss 180mm F2.8 M42 screw mount lens with an M42-EF mount adapter. I stopped the lens down to F/5.6 and shot at 25fps and 180 degree shutter angle. I did not use an ND filter and it turns out, it's not really necessary with the BMCC. The images below are an example of how much information you can pull back into the frames. The fast diagonally falling snow alone would have made a big mess with compression artefacts on 8-bit h.264 DSLR footage.

Stay tuned for the DNG file. I will post a video once I get around to editing the shots.

Very impressive! As you say, the amount of information retained is stunning. Thanks for posting.
