Very impressive what you accomplished with just two lights. You definitely made the most of them!

Andrew Bell wrote:Jamie! Watched your videos. Its great! Cant write a lot because cant speak English well but want to say a lot of good words about your clips. Love the manner of giving information to viewer. Some words mixed with music inserts easy to listen and watch. Great location with woman! Her violet dress just pomps out of the screen. Great colors! Liked vertical panning here. What you use to make camera movements? Some steadycam?
Thanks! My eyes enjoyed watching it. Also great location with young man in city too! Especially liked the parts when he speaks.

Thanks! So glad you enjoyed them. The editing of words and music was done by the talented James Kennard. Camera movements on the cellist were a combination of a small cinevate tripod mounted slider, a steadicam merlin, and a tripod mounted mini-jib (very tiny cheap one, ~$100). For the drummer, the interview and all other steadicam type shots are from the pocket camera + SLR magic 10mm lens mounted on a Helix Jr.

Long time reader, first time posting something.
First test footage of ursa mini 4.k6k on a ronin-m. It wasn't that smooth due to a long sdi cable that was in the way, but with a small lens (i used the canon 24mm) it can be perfectly balanced. UHD, 60fps, Prores 422.
Ronin's battery was also supplying power to the ursa mini. Each battery can hold both ronin and camera for 30-40m. Use kill motors when not in use, they are your best friend to put this camera on and of the gimbal.

Andrew and Jamie really enjoyed both of your clips/works.. really immersive camera movements totally fitting the subject! :)

Jamie did you do all the grading yourself as well? Man I really have to improve my Davinci skills..
Andrew what did you use for the movements?

Oh and thanks Rick for the kind words! Didn't check this thread for some time :(

Yes, I did all my own grading. Would love to hire dedicated colorist sometimes, but there's often limited budget for most of the docs I work on. Benefit to doing my own grading is that I become a better shooter by learning the limits of cameras, how far I can push them and how each one responds in different situations.

Last week my 4.6k landed and since everything was in a good mood, weather was fine and we had time, I followed my son from the Kindergarden to a playground.

So here's is my family movie:

and in UHD:

Please tell me what you think.

additional info:
This was a run 'n gun style test, so I put on my stabilized Canon 24-105 with a Tiffen vari ND, no IRcut yet. The camera has a weight 5kg incl. lens, viewfinder, battery and tripod plate and two CFAST 128GB cards from the bay..

Colours of this video are not perfect, but unfortunately I'm not a colourist and this was my first project entirely created in the Blackmagic design world.

I have Varavon Slidecam EX Plus slider placed on my tripad. It robust but heavy for my tripad a bit. Sometimes tripad can slide down with one leg so I need to be careful with it. I don't like this slider btw. Can't recommend it. It just very heavy.

Diged some backstage photos. The setup is very simple.

Thanks Andrew.. sometimes less is more, definitely great result with a "simple" setup! :)

Yeah the slider looks a little flimsy... I have stopped using these kind of sliders as it was always a hassle :/

Long time lurker, first time poster.
Try to be nice:P
I made a mini music movie from a bands EP.

Most was shot with the BMCC 2.5k, slow mo on the a6000.
For some reason i always feel when uploading to vimeo the quality suffers greatly in comparison to others.
Im not sure if this is because Im not crushing it enough (I guess I have an 80s kind of style to grading), if its the settings Im using to export or if Im just not used to seeing the quality footage being compressed so much. (It still always looks much better on my render before uploading.
Any help would be much appreciated!

This is a personal project that I did to test my Mini 4.6k. The lighting was extreme, but as this is where my mum always sits when she's at the dining table I wanted it like that...... and with the sun blazing in Scotland you really have to make the most of it!! I used a rode wireless mic direct into the camera.

Nuno,

I LOVE it... The music paired with the eerie look hit the spot. Love the atmosphere, seriously. The road shot is great --- if that was a trailer to a movie just about to hit the cinema, I'd grab my girl, find a baby sitter and hit it...

I loved the grade as well... so seldom these days that someone not on huge budget dare to grade atmospherically and match look with feeling. You nailed that one IMO.

I used Apple ProRes 422 HQ in full frame HD mode Rick. Would of liked to have filmed at the highest possible quality, but my mac isn't up to it. Still, I'm happy with this though.

This is a simple story about Wendy a struggling writer who finds inspiration in an unlikely place. While sharing a meal with a friend that might be less fortunate, but is rich in spirt.
This is our entry to the 48hour film project St. louis MO. 2015
48hourfilm.com/en/stlouis/
We Won "Audience Choice", "Best Graphics" and "Best Use of Character"
Genre: Buddy Film
Character: Will or Wendy Poe, Unpublished Author
Prop: a french baguette
Line: "That has to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard."
We shot this with a BlackMagic production 4k camera, a BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera, and a Dji Inspire 1
we had no budget besides beer money.
it was scripted, casted, filmed, and edited all in 48 hour

Enjoy

Nice! I work for Zildjian and filmed with Jacob Nissly last year. I really like the walking interview style, it's a great alternative to the traditional sit-down.

Thanks, Stephen. I expect to be doing more HD video than 4K. Looking forward to kicking the tires, all the tires, but once my initial testing is done, I shall be shooting most often with the B4 lens in an HD window.

Here's my first real use with the 4.6K Mini....uploaded in 4k!
Graded in DaVinci Resolve 12 Studio w/ Daniel Peters "Fuji Look" LUT
Edited in Final Cut Pro X
Shot with Rokinon 24mm Cine DS lens w/ Hoya IR Cut
Everything was 800 ISO, minus the last three clips @ 1600 ISO. (i lifted the exposure .25 and noise was present in the blue shadows)

Hey guys,

Just got hold a BMPCC, been out shooting a fair bit, finally got a chance to get something nice in the Lake District; went up there for a couple of days and tried to get as many shots as possible. Rained the whole time so that was a challenge! Only got the one lens for now; Samyang 21mm T1.5.

Shot in RAW as well, went through several memory sticks while I was there!

C&C welcome!

Here's my first footage with the URSA Mini 4.6k, from about 2 weeks ago. I had a Canon EF-L 17-40 f/4 lens in the rehearsal studio, and a Canon EF-S 18-135 f/3.5-5.6 in the theater. I graded it pretty roughly with Lumetri and Magic Bullet Looks. I'm pleased that rolling shutter is not an issue at all. In subsequent tests I picked up the uneven magenta vignette down the right side of frame, and I have already received a replacement camera. Will start testing that one today. All-in-all, even with the idiosyncrasies, I absolutely love this camera.

Thank for sharing! Best workout video I've ever seen! Usually they look like crappy infomercials. Never seen one shot like a campy action film.

EDIT: Just watched the rest of the series. Wonderfully creative work!

Hi all,

Here is a video shot on the Pocket with a ZF 35mm prime.
For lighting we used 2 source four jr's and a rotolight mini led hidden inside the piano case.
Thank you for watching.

Also, posted this in the URSA Mini 4.6K Footage Thread:

Alright, finally releasing the music video we shot back in February with the Blackmagic URSA Mini 4.6K EF beta (Kochab):

The Music Video is for Troy Ramey’s “Song Man." Shot it in RAW 4:1 with the project frame rate at 24 fps and a few shots in 60 fps for slow-motion. Rokinon Cinema Lenses (16, 24, & 35) were used, and although I also have a 50, 85, & 135 I don’t think we used them in any of the shots chosen to be in the video. Edited in Premiere Pro, with Color Grading in Resolve 12. Watch it in UHD if you have the screen resolution!

Lighting was a very stylized RED and BLUE style, with a Source 4 used to spot light our musician.

Enjoy!

Wow! There's a lot of really beautiful shots in this film. That location is so inspiring. Sometimes using just one focal length can add a certain magic to a sequence.

It's always exciting to see great pictures like this shot with the Pocket Cinema Camera.

Enjoy!

Absolute killer shots! Love the framing and look! Also cool song!

Here is a short film that I shot on the Ursa mini 4K with mostly a Rokinon 35mm 1.5 cine lens. I shot and directed this in one night (only 2.5 hours) with a crew of (3) mostly lit using soft box and 65% was from the UM4K, other shots and some b-roll were from two 5Dmkiii. Editing was done in only 18 hours because of time constraints. Edited/colored solely in PPCC15. I'm pretty proud of how it turned out considering the SHORT amount of time I had to shoot, direct and edit it and with no preproduction at all. The UM4K footage surprised me how well it held up in post at 1080P, 23.976, ProRes HQ! It graded the best and of course blew the 5D footage out of the water!

Waiting for that 4.6K Turret : )

Thank for sharing! Best workout video I've ever seen! Usually they look like crappy infomercials. Never seen one shot like a campy action film.

EDIT: Just watched the rest of the series. Wonderfully creative work!

THANX for the thumbs up !!!

BMPCC Live Concert Slomotion

PostFri May 20, 2016 8:36 pm

Hello there,

here's some live concert trailer that I did. Kind of experimental with video and audio slomo (matching the band's name):
https://vimeo.com/167400824

It's worth to check with good speakers or headphones. I'm a native sound engineer and an autodidactic filmer. Maybe that's why :-) I usually invest at least same time in audio recording and editing than in the visual part.

Specs:
BMPCC, Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 (no VR)
ProRes 422, Film, WB 3600K

C&C welcome.

Best regards,
Toni
