Sunset in Tali (with the BMC)

heres a quick compilation on my short trip to tali beach with the BMC.

im not really a motion landscape shooter as i prefer shooting on set but i just want to share my experience with the cam

I also noticed theres quite a lack of noise in some of your lower lit shots, anything in particular done in post?

Everything were shot overexposed. I exposed to the point i wanted to clip. Everything is then brought down in post.

Would you expand on that a bit. Did you use the zebra's and if so what %.

That would be "correctly exposed" tho, not over exposed.

The BMCC needs to be exposed to the right. If you set your zebras to 100% and keep your highlights just below your zebra level then you are correctly exposing the camera.

I take it you avoided the "black dot" effect by not clipping the sun? Or did you correct the black dot in post? Beautiful BTW.

I've found the black spot in the sun does not always happen. I shot some test footage last weekend in ProRes (Film and Video) along with RAW that had the sun in frame and clipped (zebras at 100% were showing) and I had no black spots.

I wonder what triggers it.

Was this vintage glass?

I've yet to experience the black sun phenom myself, and I certainly have clipped the sun. In fact, in most cases, if you didn't clip the sun, the rest of your frame would be drastically underexposed - even in RAW.

I've had shots where I experimented with leaving the sun unclipped, and the rest of the frame couldn't be saved. That's the only time that's happened to me so far.
