embedding sRGB Profile like Photoshop does?

PostFri Jul 22, 2016 10:38 am

Ok - here's the Challenge:

-> Loader: .exr-Files with 16bit
--> Import Setting: float16, Color Space sRGB, Gamma is set to Bypass (there is NO Gamma-Problem here)
---> Compositing workflow -
----> Saver: .png, 8bit (don't worry - this also happens when using .jpg with sRGB Curve)
-----> Render

So now this happens (compared to Photoshop):

The files have no sRGB saved (Frames are less saturated, this is visible when compared to the same workflow in PS).

But, when i drop the rendered png's or jpg's from Fusion into PS it says: "No color Profile embedded - which one do you prefer?" - and well, let's say i prefer sRGB because that is the Profile i need...

So i set up sRGB, save this single Frame with PS and voila: sRGB embedded. Better Saturation. All good.

What is wrong with Fusion here?
Could it really be that i have to put ALL the rendered Frames through Photoshop to embed that sRGB that i choosed to use in Fusion? :roll:

Is this a bug in Fusion (7.5)?

Any help here appreciated :idea:
Thank you very much in advance!

PS colorprofils are something else then an image in sRGB colorspace. Photoshop uses ICC profiles and i dont know any (node) compositor which supports ICC profils or can embed them. if you need the ICC profil embede in the output image you need to convert them in PS or use something like exiftools

Hello Michael,

thanks a lot for this answer so i don't have my mind made up
any longer thinking about doing something wrong in Fusion.
Seems my "Workflow" here is correct.

Do you get color shift from Fu to Ps? Is that what you are saying?

ICC profiles are mainly for print and monitor display. The only way I know to get Fusion to embed ICC is to create a "Frame Saved Script" for the Saver that calls an external command line program like Image Magick to then embed the ICC profile.

I never solved how to do it this way but it should work.

Not sure what your final product is intended to be but no video formats or video players support ICC profiles.
