Native 3D Camera Tracker / Mocha Included

PostFri Jul 29, 2016 7:25 pm

I've come upon the one thing that is going to keep me using After Effects over Fusion until this is resolved: 3D Camera Tracker. Who else agrees this needs to be fixed immediately?

I tried to use Mocha that's included in After Effects, but that only allows Camera Tracking Data to be sent to After Effects, and not Fusion. So, that makes it that not only does After Effects have an incredibly decent 3D Camera Tracker built-in, but it also have Mocha AE.

Fusion needs its own built in 3D Camera Tracker, or needs to have Mocha packaged with it. Plain and simple this is a make or break point of which software will be predominately used by myself and others I work with.

I really like Fusion, and am continuing to learn it. However, I will keep to After Effects for as long as there is a native 3D camera tracker inside of it that I can use.

Sound off below if you think that Fusion needs a native 3D Camera Tracker or Mocha to be included with the software.

For an extra $500, I agree. For $0? Not so much. The issue is that good 3D tracking solutions for Fusion exist already, so investing in a "solved problem" isn't a good use of developer time. But if it was a revenue generator that allowed code to be licensed or another developer to be contracted to make it? Sure.

On the other hand, if that's the only thing you need it for...how much is After Effects monthly? Just get Syntheyes and use it with Fusion. The workflow is pretty good between these two packages these days.

Like I said before no in-house solution will come close to Mocha or Syntheyes or PF so I am not optimistic about any of those. Mocha could come as OFX for Fusion soon.

sorry, this point of view does not convince me...a cough blow by BMD to know how near or far they are about this philosophy?

Wow! Could you please share that script? And is there a guide with the steps on how to use it?))

I keep hearing the "stop paying the $50/month fee for Adobe CC and pay for this" argument, however it's not founded in the understanding that there is a need for Adobe CC beyond video production needs. I use Photoshop and Illustrator all the time, and Lightroom for my photography work, and then also use Dreamweaver to design and maintain my website. So Adobe creates a ton of tools outside of video work that I use all the time.

So, I will not stop paying for After Effects because it't bundled with my whole Adobe CC plan. If I'm going to pay for Syntheyes or another tracking program to use with Fusion I need to budget for that new expense to be added on top of what I pay for other services I use. This is not a simple drop Adobe plan suggestion.

No problem, Tim. Since I don't use *any* Adobe products I assumed you were just using After Effects.
Especially since you wrote:
However, I will keep to After Effects for as long as there is a native 3D camera tracker inside of it that I can use.
which I interpreted as 'if there is another app that provides me with a builtin 3D Camera Tracker I will no longer keep to After Effects'
But if you're using the whole CC then of course it doesn't make sense to drop Adobe completely.
