Things must be on the move! I ordered my 4.6k EF from Adorama on August 7 and it shipped on Friday. I get it on the 26th (next week). I placed my original order (in Canada and from a Canadian company) last November, so this has been a long wait. So damn excited!

Ursa Mini 4.6k ready yet?

PostTue Aug 23, 2016 7:20 pm

It's been a year and a half since the camera was released, checking in to see if it's ready for prime time yet?

From what I've gathered... It's still delayed (not widely available) or is it? Sensor has issues with magenta cast (has this been resolved)? New menu system improves performance? I looked into renting to test from BorrowLenses and they advise on the product page that the camera is not suggested for professional use due to technical issues with the camera not booting, crashing and being generally unreliable... have those concerns been addressed?

100%? Not yet, perhaps you may want to wait until the final release of firmware 4.0. And there's more already planned for the 4.1 update. At some point you may just decide to jump in the water and enjoy the swim!

Paul Knap just got his UM, no issues, including magenta cast. Camera seems 100-percent. He is testing FW 4.0 now. But as Rick said, the final version of FW4.x may have all these previous issues fixed.

Definitely we are seeing anecdotal evidence that the cameras people have received in the last few weeks are better that the early cameras in general release late March through mid-April (like mine, ). But I still love shooting with it!

Denny. It seems my camera is not perfect, though I'm not sure there is anything wrong with it
It's just that various conditions seem to bring out a less that perfect image.
My first thoughts are that those conditions may not arise in normal shooting.
Situations such as large contiguous areas of high key, like skies and walls, stopped down and starved of light, will show areas with a cast.
It is akin to fixed pattern noise, there if you really look for it, like cranking up the gain on any image, but otherwise you won't see it.
I need to investigate more, but I also need to get on with some projects that are way overdue.i don't want to spend too much time stress testing when I have so much to do, bit will be keeping an eye on the cameras performance

This is a complete Joke, still no cameras in the UK after nearly 6 months and people in the US and Canada are getting deliveries placed 1 week ago! What a complete wind up!!

4.6k Shipments

PostWed Aug 24, 2016 2:59 pm

Regardless of what are the true causes of this current situation, I wonder if it's some for BMD to revise its order/distribution methodology. I won't go over the way it appears to have worked for years for BMD, but it has not worked well since they introduced their cinema camera product line, the demand for which has presented quite a supply challenge.

It may be time for BMD to take camera orders directly in an online store. The orders could be placed from the regions based on the location of the accounts associated with the customer. And a preferred retailer could possibly still be required, if BMD insisted on using them in the distribution chain. A little like Apple having an online store associated with the customer's specific country and their stores and third party retail outlets replaced by BMD partners.

So no more orders of a hundred computers from a retail outlet when they only have 20 real customers which may be at the root of the current problem. It's just doing a disservice to BMD's reputation.

I agree Rick, there seems to be something wrong with EU and UK distribution, or the retailers are,not telling the whole story, like taking orders, but not actually ordering cameras from BM unitil initial release issues were resolved (this what they avoid a lot of returns on a camera not quite ready for release). I am just guessing, hard to tell where the problem actually is.

Wouldn't that be a corker!? Well BMD certainly would know if their regional orders were not meeting expectations compared to other regions. I don't think the retailers would be playing games with their customers, but I believe in the tooth fairy!

Richard, my intention was to provided some hope that the end of the wait is near, not to add to the despair.
I should have kept my mouth shut.
In any case, the camera did arrive yesterday as promised, just a week after ordering. I don't really have any special connection with my retailer other than being a loyal customer with a middle of the road budged, probably no more than $40-50k yearly expenditure with them.
I just wrongly assumed that a short week wait meant that BMD was starting to meet the demand.

hey man, You have nothing to apologise for at all and the comment meant no harm to you in any way, I hope you didn't take it that way. I'm really glad you didn't have to wait long for your camera. My issue is that BM are telling everyone that they are shipping cameras equally across the world and I've been at the front of the que in the UK for 6 months now. Meanwhile people in the US are receiving them within a week of ordering.

Richard, I would be going down to the dealer and asking to see his order book at this point, 6 months and no shipments! Either, Someone is either telling a porky, or something is very wrong!

I would agree with Denny, it is unfathomable that BMD distribution could be this unbalanced.
To further accentuate how different re-sellers seem to be handling BMD distribution better than others, yesterday and for the short period of time that I visited B&H website, maybe 45 minutes, the camera was listed in stock. Later on it went to "More Coming Soon", which in itself is different that the previous" New Item - Coming Soon"

its not the dealer, ive been in contact with the dealer and the uks distributor Holden who have stated that no cameras are coming into the country at all, while the US is receiving a steady flow of cameras.

I also found this. We are a reseller and have a very close relationship with Holdan, and we have been told the same thing, they just aren't coming in and they aren't being told when to expect .

Whatever is going on something is seriously wrong and the only people that can do something about it or give us an update are BM.

Ben in the UK thread who has his order at the same retailer as me received a camera this week with a serial beginning 29**, I thought the new cameras where starting 31** so it all seems a little strange to me.

I ordered mine at the beginning of the year in Switzerland.... waited until late July and cancelled (I was 2nd in the queue for several months and when asking was told that there is no ETA).
Started an order at B&H late July and it shipped yesterday.

There DEFINITELY is something severely wrong with distribution in Europe... My guess is that BMD is allocating the vast majority of their cameras to the US (and some other select countries) and Europe is left with scraps...

OK, so if it is not the dealer and Holden actually placed their orders, who does Holden place the cameras with, and does this company ship to Holden? You should see how far back you can trace the distribution chain here, somewhere along the line, it is broken. From what I understand, Newmagic in AU is the global distributor for BM. BM simply supplies all the stock to Newmagic, who then ships them to the various regional distributors. Now the question who and where are these "regional distributors" located?

You should see if you can keep back tracing the distribution chain here.

No one here can call or mail Newmagic asking some explanations?
