Weird line on the touchscreen

PostTue Feb 05, 2013 5:48 pm

hey guys

i'm experiencing a weird line almost in the middle of the touchscreen, much more visible when pointing the camera to a dark spot.

Anybody have seen anything like this ?

still, i'd like to know if anybody else experienced this. It's not normal at all, i think it's a problem of the touchscreen, maybe a bug. The other weird thing is that the line apparently disappears in the footage (thanks God). I emailed BlackMagic and they seem to be concerned about it, so I don't think this is something "natural".

Do you have any pictures? This seems to be kind of a shot in the dark (no pun intended) without either the footage or a picture depicting what you're talking about.

Just to be sure, you're only seeing this on the LCD screen and not in the footage?

I will have my 5d back today so I can take a picture of the problem.

the "line" appears on the touchscreen, apparently there is no trace on the footage when passed to the computer.

I may go back to Firmware 1.1 and try it again (I downloaded and installed 1.2 from the very first moment i got the camera) but It will take me time because I have to reformat the ssd.

In few hours I will post a picture of the problem.

here's a really ugly picture of the line, it divides the image in two parts, the upper one more greenish,

Do you have a light meter or a cheap iPhone Light Meter app?

You look about four to five stops underexposed.

Just a guess. But, if you meter, let us know.

Record a few seconds in RAW where you can see the line on the LCD and then share a DNG from the footage with us please.

I still suspect it is the same issue as I posted previously. The LCD can look brighter than the footage and so it might stand out more on the screen and appear to be not present in the recorded footage.

I know I'm underexposed, but the point to me is : this strange line is a normal "reaction" to being underexposed?

@Tom : I'll upload a DNG file as fast as I can, if you guys knew...I was working in south america and left my mac there (because I have to comeback in some days) so know all I have is a bad working laptop which can't even read my ssd, I had to give it to a friend to format it !

The thread explained it, me thought... >.< Sorry about that.

It is normal. That's just how the camera works. You underexpose too severely and it'll show up.

Where's Christine! She should make that thread a sticky (then I will be famoose!)

It'll also show up if you wash the contrast out too far, or you are exposed but focused on a dark area.

so far i love everything about my camera except for this. I like to get as close to my final image in camera then slightly tweak in post.

I guess the better thing to do expose until line goes away then drop the exposure in post? lame sauce.
