I was filming with Ursa Mini 4k 24fps Uncompressed RAW and a clip dropped 2 frames. I didn't notice until I brought it into Davinci. I have it set to stop recording if it drops frames. I just bought my Ursa Mini in december so it came with firmware 4.0. Anyone ever have this happen?

No, when I have forced the camera to drop frames, the camera stopped with that setting selected.

How did you manage to drop frames? What frame rate were you using? Which cards are you using? Are you on firmware release 4.1/4.2?

James, of course I read your post. Can't explain why I was asking about the frame rate other than senior moment!

However your above post said the camera came with 4.0 firmware. I was asking what version you were on as I wondered if you had updated to the latest 4.1 or 4.2 version of the firmware. Now I assume you're still on version 4.0.

haha no problem. yes I am using 4.0 as I seen there was no updates involved for the ursa mini 4k on 4.1. I wasn't aware of a 4.2 update.

Basically I shouldnt have a broken clip if I have it set to stop recording on dropped frames. thats my issue :(

You're correct. I haven't had that happen that the camera would continue to record with the Stop Recording option selected.

Can someone from Black Magic reply please, it would keep things a lot simpler. Or can I be directed where I can speak with someone from the company?

Also, this isn't the first time this has happened.

Hi, this is a user forum so always best to contact support if you need it quickly (bottom of this page):
https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support

Have you had this issue with any other cards beside the BiWin? Those cards are not on our recommended list and so far in our testing we have seen some issues so we're waiting on new versions of the cards to test further.

I have not tested it with other cards. This doesn't seem like a card issue though, as I have my Ursa Mini set to stop recording if a frame is dropped. I just filmed again and had the same problem in a 40 second long clip where it dropped 2 frames, twice.

I also tested a second Biwin card and had the same issue. I will continue testing to see if it happens more. I will also update my firmware, even though it doesn't say it does anything for the 4k Mini

Something just clicked to me and I wanted to post it. I haven't had a chance to test yet, but I believe it could be the memory card slot. I tested the 2nd memory card yesterday and didnt get a dropped frame, but I believe it was in the 2nd memory card slot not the first one. I will report back tonight.

I have same problems with 2 cards cfast 128GB Lexar 3400X when shooting RAW with my ursa mini 4K.I shooting at 25 fps. I use firmware 4.0 (its the last for ursa mini 4K) with on function "stop record if drop frames". Ursa mini dont stop the record but on my card missing frames in the seqvence folder. Its a camera fault because dont stop the record how manual say. I have posted on this topic https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=53174&start=50more detailed my problem.

So I am able to reproduce this problem 100% every time if I choose. It is a faulty port issue. my Memory card port 1 will drop 2 frames, sometimes twice in one recording, and it won't stop recording even though I have it set to. I have tested both my Biwin cards in port number 2, with zero issues of frames dropping even after recording for 5 minutes straight. As soon as I switch over to port number 1, bang I get dropped frames.

My port number 1 also seems to be a bit looser than number two. The eject button on port 1 isnt QUITE as pushed out as port number 2. I hope this is covered in the warranty... what a hassle to have to send the camera back in :(

While recording RAW to two cards at 60 fps, the issue occurred again, this time skipping 3 frames instead of 2. Faulty port number 1 still.

well I formatted the cards to OS X Extended and I didn't get any dropped frames in either port, up to one minute recording. will continue further testing.

James, HFS+ is a 'journaled' recording technique that provides greater assurance that the records are completely recorded. I don't think exFAT has that feature so if for some reason the media can't quite keep up, the frame is dropped. I only use HFS+. Not a guarantee but may be better. ExFAT can win a Speed contest since it has less overhead, but it's Speed with a possibility of less reliability.

Hey Rick ya I figured out the issue and made a new post, as others were having the same problem with their cameras. I am hoping someone from the BMD team will response shortly.
