Add a simple border to a video / picture

I have very basic question and this must work somehow in Resolve:

How do I add a simple white border to an image or a picture in picture video?
I have done this with adding a white solid in the background of the picture and then cropping it to alittle more than the picture's dimensions but that is quite a hassle. Surely, there must be an easier way or plugin?

I'm sure there are a few ways. My way would be to use the solid colour generator within the FX palette (GPU accelerated), then use an inverted rectangular power window to restrict this to the edge of frame. Then you can use the transform in the edit page to position as you like.

Save your white border as a power grade for next time!

You could also do it as a wipe transition on the Edit page and choose a border, then just leave it up without a keyframes transition per se.

Paul, that's quite similar to to my method, which I am trying to speed up.

Marc, interesting idea! However, the border doesn't scale down with the footage to fit around the picture in picture video... maybe I am just doing it wrong. I will find it out.

Bit of a late response, but since this post is the one showing up in Google search, thought I’d post this vid I made on adding a border. Seems to be the most painless way to do it, unless you have a version of Resolve with the “colored border” fusion effect.
