BMC issues

Had a big problem after a shoot.
Problem 1: had no reference sound file.
Problem 2: file was in fast motion speed up 200 percent even though it was at 24 frames a second.

The first part of the shoot I shot using a sandisc 480gig. Need two more shots popped in a intel SSD 520 series 180gb did not power off the camera This was not the first time I had the sound issue but the first time I had the speed issue. What are the know data issues? Has anyone had anything similar? Are there any fixes once it is done? I have reduced the speed in Final cut X but it looks funny.

Not sure what caused the issue you see there, but "intel SSD 520 series 180gb" is not on the list of tested/recommended SSD drives. Or is that a typo?

You said you did not power off the camera. It's been stated elsewhere that you need to power down when swapping SSDs, or it can cause various kinds of problems. Perhaps this is one of them.

No but i will check and see what setting it was no what happens when you turn off the camera does it reset or the setting stay the same? time lapse would be slower not faster it was looked like stuff at at 120 frames per second. 50% made the motion close but still wankie.

Time lapse actually speeds up the apparent rate of motion. If you were shooting at a timelapse rate of 2 or 3 frames (shooting one frame every other frame, or every three frames) the resulting footage would appear to play back at two or three times the speed of reality.

A setting of 5 frames would yield something that looked to be playing at 120fps, as you mentioned.

I can guarantee this is not an issue and simply user error.

The first thing you will notice when in timelapse mode is that when hit hit Rec, the timecode bar displays "Time Lapse" for 2 seconds.

Then the timecode will increment only when a frame is recorded so it won't run in realtime.

Ah! Problem resolved.

As Christine notes it is a very good idea to get into the habit of looking at the menu bar to see where your settings are. Cannot tell you how many times early on I had the white balance setting wrong for the shot. The bar has almost all the critical info you need for before you shoot the shot. And this bar also shows on any external monitor or EVF that you hang on the BMCC.

I had the same issue about 2 months ago. Did not turn the camera off when switching card same type of file errors the ones that had no sound where time lapse so no sound was recorded. I think it went into time lapse on its own and the time lapse was just a little fast so at first glance (on set ) I did not see there was a problem had to do a re shoot because of it.
