Hyperdeck Shuttle firmware request

PostMon Mar 11, 2013 3:01 pm

I did my first C100 shoot recently and I realized how much of a pain it was to hit record on both the camera and Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 for every shot. I'd like to see the Hyperdeck Shuttle 2's record automatically get triggered by HDMI camera's that have embedded timecode like the C300, C100, FS100, GH3, etc.

At some point, you will also wish for the automatic pull down that some other recorders feature. I asked for it several months ago and was told they were looking in to it.

Isn't that an option in the software on the computer? I haven't tried it because I would rather roll on both to make sure I have it.

I also wish they would offer the other flavors of ProRes and DNxHD to record in. Sometimes my stuff doesn't need ProRes(HQ) and I can get away with regular ProRes or ProRes(LT). That way I wouldn't have to transcode all of it later to what I need it to be in.

Oh and being able to set a naming convention would be a big help too. I do multicamera shoots with 4 hyperdecks. It would be easier on the data loader to have each hyperdeck assign a name to it like "Cam A" instead of Capture 001.

But either way, this is a great device for the money. We have a Pix240 for our line cuts which is great, but it also cost 10x more. So I'm not going to complain about the device. But those features would be nice!

mhood,

Pulldown removal needs processing power. It'd be nice, but if we don't get it, it won't be the end of the world since it can easily be removed with a program like Compressor. The HDMI timecode trigger recording should be a lot easier to do since the Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 already does that in SDI.

Well, pull down is only important for C100 or C300 work anyway (I think). But not having it removed the Shuttle from my consideration with my C100. I'll be spending almost $700 more (ouch!).

I just did a C100/Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 shoot like I mentioned in the first post, and it was very easy to remove the pulldown via Compressor. Sure it's another step in post, but it really can't get much easier. I made a droplet that now resides on my desktop. I just drag a stock file onto the droplet and it removes the pulldown automatically in real time.

What is Compressor? I'm CS6 PPro on Windows.

Compressor is a $50 Mac program. I was told it's just as easy to remove it in AE.

Yep, i have my hyperdeck auto record/stop when my BMCC does. You set the option using the software on your computer while the shuttle is plugged in.

+1 for naming conventions!

Thanks Hook, I didn't know about this, Question? What about file names?
Does the Hyperdeck record the same name if the camera is recording RAW?

More for Proxie Edits I guess?
Thanks

Different names at the moment, but you can just do a batch rename (i use "A Better Finder Rename" in OSX for this). That's what my support of the request for setting your own naming conventions is about. :)

Yeah, the idea is to be able to go straight to edit with the prores and relink to raw for the grade. But the prores grades really nice itself.. I think for projects i'm shooting prores on and am paranoid about, i may just run the shuttle for instant backup of the prores!
