ATEM1 M/E Switcher and Win7

PostFri Sep 07, 2012 9:13 pm

Just received the Switcher and installed 3.3 on my HP Pavilion dv7 Windows laptop before making any connections. I can see the IP address for the Switcher in the control panel view, but the switcher does not see the laptop and the control panel is inoperable. I have run Win diagnostics with no success. On the first power-up, I had a video signal on my multi-view monitor, but not now. I am not well versed in IP stuff, so, someone please help. I monkeyed around with the laptop network settings and I now know I should not have done that. Slapping my own hands.

Are you direct connected between the computer and the switcher?

If so it should be easy.

Using a USB cable connect the switcher and the computer you installed the ATEM software on.
Run the ATEM Setup Utility. This will bring up a small dialog that will have some IP information. By default its 192.168.10.240. Make sure that subnet mask says 255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.10.1

Now go to your open the control panel and choose Network and Sharing Center on the left there will be a link Change adapter settings. This will bring up a list of network connections. On each computer this will be different. You are looking for the one that says Local Area Connection. Right click on this icon and choose Properties.

This will open a box with a list in the center, you want to left click on the one that says Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP v4). Once selected click the properties button.

WHEW! Almost there.

A new dialog will appear (make sure you're on the General Tab). Click the Use the following IP radio button and enter the following.
IP Address: 192.168.10.200
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.10.1

Press okay to close out of the dialog.

You can now run the ATEM Software Control and it should connect. Certainly let us know if it doesn't.

NOW...if you are on a network, and want to add the switcher to the network it's a bit easier.

Obviously you're computer and switcher should be connected to the networks switch.

Change the IP Address and Gateway to match your current network. If you do not know the network details you will have to find out before proceeding.

Now you can run the ATEM Software Control and it should be connected.

If you need more detailed help, then give us a call and we'll help you out directly.

Joshua,

Thanks for your reply.

First, yes this is a direct laptop/switcher connection.

Your instructions were very clear and I followed them exactly, but I still get a 'Not Connected' message on the Software Control Panel. The set up utility is reporting correct ip addresses on both units.

I rebooted the laptop, powered down the switcher and disconnected the usb cable, I changed to another ethernet cable too, but no positive results. I don't think it matters, but I used a usb 3 a-to-b cable rather than a usb 2 cable for that connection. The laptop does not have usb 3. Maybe that is the problem.

The USB connection is used for device configuration (setting IP and uploading firmware) and recording only. For control all that's needed is a TCP/IP connection.

Check that you can ping the ATEM from your laptop. Double check the IP address of your network adapter on your PC and check that Windows is reporting that the network is connected.

Also make sure that you're not connected to a WiFi network that uses the same IP address subnet (if your switcher is 192.168.1.50 and your WiFi IP address is 192.168.1.40 then there's a good chance the routing won't work properly.

WiFi is disabled. Ping is successful. Still get 'Not Connected' message.

For a direct PC to switcher connection, you need to setup computers network manually (no DHCP possible).

For default switchers address, set up at computers network any ip-addess except 192.168.10.240. (e.g. 192.168.10.139).

Set up the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0. The standardgateway may be blank, inn needed, use 192.168.10.1.
