No sound on Windows 10 Spring Creators Update (1803)

PostFri Mar 30, 2018 2:43 pm

It might be some bug:

I have serious sound issues with DaVinci Resolve 14.3.0.014 under Windows 10 Spring Creators Update (1803, last pre-release version, the next one will be the final one). There is no sound at all.

I've tried several sound adapters: Realtek HD (integrated), SoundBlaster Audigy LS (PCI), ASUS Xonar (USB). Tried to reinstall DaVinci Resolve from scratch, no success. Checked Windows sound settings, audio format, nothing helped. Volume meter doesn't show anything when playing back the timeline. Tried to upgrade/downgrade drivers, no luck. All other applications are working properly.

Then switched back to Fall Creators Update (1703), and Resolve's sound came back, everything is working properly.

I believe it is a Windows 10 bug, not Resolve. In the pro / prosumer audio world, W10 updates have been notorious for wreaking havoc with audio drivers.

Various fixes involve things like having to prevent Windows from updating drivers, reinstalling audio drivers and being sure to use drivers directly from the device manufacturer.

It's probably not wise to use Pre-Release software on a production machine.

Having said that, have you checked the Speaker Setup under Preferences>System>Video and Audio I/O?
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Just a small up for this thread. The problem persists with the final and public 1803. Reverting back to 1703...

You can't setup too much on that panel. Also checked the 16/24 bit settings on Windows sound output properties.

Yes, MS is ... but also i noticed, that sound gone when i tried to adjust volume. At the and I have reinstall sound drivers again, make couple restarts, almost give up and used sound distributed to monitor over hdmi, but it has started woking... I posted urgent messages to MS to fix it ASAP...

In centrum feedback look for "No sound after installing Spring update" and vote for it.
