How I only waited one week for my BMCC.

PostWed Mar 27, 2013 7:53 am

OK I've posted this twice already and no one can or has answered so I thought I'd tell you all how I ordered and received my BMCC in just over a week. But first please help me out with the following:

In reference to:
http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/communi ... ryId=30354

It seems and correct me if I'm wrong if I:

Pick up an UltraStudio 4K and a fresh 13in macbook pro with two thunder bolt connections I can:

Connect a 13in Rentina, i7 3.0ghz dual core system with
Thunderbolt 1: UltraStudio 4K, daisy link a thunderbolt external RAID hard drive drive to the macbook
&
Thunderbolt 2: External Monitor

I've have for a pretty sweet, pretty portable Black Magic Cinema Camera RAW editing station? Without a redrock?

Mind mentioning to us what website/store your camera was purchased from? And your workflow/portable workstation should work perfectly in theory. Keep in mind 12bit Raw at 2.5K is more information than 4k Red Code if I am not mistaken. Which I have been before.

You are smarter than most!

When I ordered my camera (many months ago), I was smarter than most also, but you are more clever than I in this matter. I knew enough to ask particular questions, and if the answers were not given, or not what I wanted, I passed up the reseller. I received my camera much sooner than most (my reseller ordered a slew of cameras at NAB), given my order date, but your technique is perfect. Take a bow!

None of this matters, since they will all need to be fixed,
and so far this fix "on average" takes 30 + days maybe more,
the lies from BMD are getting ridicules, please do your own research (other forum) and judge for your self how this Flange "Crap" is being handled, what a joke!

They need to fully replace it with a NEW working camera, and take the loss, but passing the cost on to us for shipping and the loss of us using the camera to earn a living is absurd.
I suggest any customers refuse the fix and demand a replacement, trust me you deserve it.

Dunno Darryl, as much as I respect your opinion above most on here through the last 7 months of sitting on the same forums. I have seen countless videos and sets of clips which look absolutely amazing, sure the wide end can be soft in the faster end of aperture but in all honestly I still love the look this camera has demonstrated thus so far.

There is no way this camera has giving every person these off flange results. Some people report there not being a problem at all.

I'm not questioning the image quality, and yes many report no problems, but they do not have the lenses I do, mine or mostly Zeiss and my 85mm would not focus to infinity, I don't even have the Tokina 11-16mm yet since I wont waste my time or money on it till I know my camera will accept it
without any issues, and yes I know from one Tokina to the next they may be off due to QC, but I would rather know My camera is fixed....Then I will feel comfortable spending my time searching and purchase a working Tokina lens for the BMCC, Sort of the egg before the chicken sorta thing, what comes first? FIX the (Chicken) Camera, or the (Tokina) Egg?

Bottom line is BMD acknowledged the issue with more than just the Tokina, now it falls on them, and yet we are the ones paying for the long delays and outright refusal to tell us when we can get our cameras back!
Like I said do your research, and demand better service for Christ's Sake, BMD owes us all that much!

By the way thanks Max, I didn't think that anyone had any respect for my opinion,
It's nice knowing my posts make others realize I'm not all negative, I have earned my way around any production, and I do my research, But I am very opinionated.

Cheers

I think you meant "A Red Rocket card" , not Redrock?
Apple as an editing solution is dead in the water, unless they wake the F*C* up!
Stop paying Apple top dollar, when they don't care about your needs!

And I have a Asus Laptop that will blow any Mac Book away and I paid $1500 for it

I ordered mine BMCC last friday and it's already in the hands of the store. I am going to pick it up this morning. I ordered in person in Montreal from a black magic reseller.

My local BMCC retailer had gotten 5 cameras last week and another bunch yesterday. They are great and post on Facebook. Try Rule Boston Camera.

I can, However this was more of a teaching someone to fish than handing over the fish. I can only assume the wait list will spike and this location won't have this delivery time as I've quoted above. But none the less... Contact Stephanie @ dvestore.com tell her Bjorn or Grunt said hi.

Per the Workflow, yah that's what I've been thinking. Hopefully someone at Black Magic will jump on here and give us a definite. I hope the 3D availability covers the processing power need for the jump in data rates required for the BMCC Raw files. I agree that Mac is ridic, but it's also ridiculously sexy and I love the operating system and 13in form factor.
I was one of those guys that built my PC since I was a kid so I know there's dope pc options. In fact I've priced them out built a mock system and yes I can get what I need without the Studio 4K but I'd also end up luggin a tower around. I also know that I've lost 100 times more work in progress with windows lock ups. I can still count me losses with mac on one hand. I've had the comp since 2009, and still handles my adobe suite in ways my PC would dream of while it was rebooting.

Studio 4k, with a 13in macbook would seriously be my dream. I use external monitors in studio anyways, pulling out 15in just seems bunk in an Airplane, train or cab. I've been waiting for the i7 macbook, I wish Apple would just give me a 13in macbook pro quad i7, ssd + use the old optical drive space for a bomb ass nvidia graphics card. ugh, now I sound like John Brawley.

@John Brawley ... um Sir, I think you are on the wrong website, or at least this was the wrong post. I think you were looking for:
http://www.fmylife.com/

That said product launches have their flaws, and from what I can gather in my pointless research Black Magic Design's team is working their off sorting out these issues. I guess that's one reason I don't jump into anything at product launch.

Bjorn - you're new to the forum so maybe don't know the history, but your comment to John is misplaced. Congrats on getting your camera. :)

Thanks Captain, you are correct I am a new sign up to the forum, but I've been following the camera since NAB. Beyond that I am anything but new to technology and product launches. So I stand next to my, hint of sarcasm, playful in nature, elbow jab comment. I acknowledge the problems, I acknowledge the flaws but I must acknowledge the hard work and time it takes to fix these unseen issues on a global scale... Black Magic aside, peace and love, but holy mother of Mary can nobody answer the question real question... Studio 4k + MBP 13 i7 = Realtime Davinci resolve and Adobe Premiere editing?

I meant the history involving John and the BMCC, and the history of Darryl on this forum. Not the history of the camera itself or technology in general.

Sorry i can't really answer your question except to say i'm pretty sure Resolve won't work with a 13" MBP at all since it only has integrated HD4000 gfx card which as far as i know is not supported. I'm fairly certain Dwaine has posted that before so maybe do a forum search. Cheers.

I know, I'm pretty sure you can't edit 4k on a macbook air.... but this guy can:
http://9to5mac.com/2012/01/25/macbook-air-thunderbolt-editing-4k-video-shows-why-the-mac-pro-as-we-know-it-can-die/

and somehow this guy is doing playback and and capture as well as staying pretty mobile with a studio 3D and Macbook Air and Air's don't have a graphics card:
http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/community/communitydetails?UserStoryId=30354

I'll try and search out the entry from Dwaine, any links would be awesome.
