Wishlist: Custom curves better control

PostWed Apr 11, 2018 8:15 am

Hello Mr and Mrs Blackmagic,

I think the custom curve is probably used everyday by every colourist. But the fact to use it with the mouse is far from being precise enough.
I personally work with the mini panel, which I love. But with this device you can just handle the 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% light points. Lack of subtlety in the intermediate levels.
For all the other curves, you have two parameters at the bottom right of the window where you can accurately control the input and the output of the point you want (need) to manipulate.
I'm sure you could add two similar controls for the custom curve window with the light point you want to work on and the value that you can raise or lower with a mouse movement.
Don't you think so ?

A question that may be of help. On the Advanced panel the offset ball can control points on the curve. Far right button under Lift/Shadow ball toggles this option. Does this option exist on the mini panel when switched to use the ball as Offset? I don’t have access to the mini.

Hi dariobigi,

I checked this morning. There's no equivalent button on the mini panel.
With the mini panel you have just three balls and three wheels. So, to have access to the offset controls you have to switch from the curves to the primary parameters and therefore you can't change the settings of the custom curve anymore, without switching back. It's one or the other.
In any case I think that two adjustable fields, like in the other curves windows, would be easy to use and highly efficient for everybody, including the people who can't enjoy any panel!
