Red Giant Universe blacklist for Fusion Studio

PostSun Apr 22, 2018 9:17 pm

Hey everyone,

I recently purchased Fusion Studio and ran into an issue with it trying to load 128 incompatible Red Giant Universe plugins every time I opened it. Turns out the fix is to blacklist those plugins, which was kind of a hassle to individually list them all. So, in order to save some future person the trouble, I've put the blacklist file in my dropbox. I can't post the URL, so let me know if you'd like it and I can send you a link.

Windows Instructions:
You may need to open it in notepad and do a find and replace of the string "C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins\Red Giant Universe\" if you loaded them to a different directory than then default. Otherwise it should work.

Once you've modified the file, save it, remove the .txt extension and put FusionOFX.blacklist in:
C:\Users\[your user folder]\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\Fusion\Profiles\Default

OSX Instructions:
You'll want to open it in text edit and find and replace "C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins\Red Giant Universe\" with an OSX compatible path to your plugins.

Once you've modified the file, save it, remove the .txt extension and put FusionOFX.blacklist in:
~/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/Fusion/Profiles/Default/

I just installed the trial of RG Universe and came across this issue, and found this old thread.

Here's a link to the blacklist for macOS, if anyone else has this issue in future.

Just download the file from that link and place it as:
Code: Select all
/Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/Fusion/Profiles/Default/FusionOFX.blacklist
Windows users will need to adjust the filenames as the OP described. A couple of text search & replaces might work.

I find it odd that these Red Giant plugins won't load in Fusion Studio, because they do load fine not only in DR Resolve, but also in Resolve's Fusion page, where they seem to work fine as nodes.

Maybe RG just don't want to support Fusion Studio.

for those who need the windows equivalent.

I entered the folder, typed
Code: Select all
cmd

in the location address, then typed:
Code: Select all
 dir /s /b /o:gn

and got the list. then placed it in a blank notepad file and named it as @thebloke mentioned and in the folder.

here's the file:

And just to mention that in Fusion 17, the name of the file has changed. It should now be called:
Code: Select all
FusionOFX.blocklist
So that's 'block' not 'black'.

If you want to run Fusion 17 alongside earlier versions, you can just make two copies of the file, using both names. Or even better, symlink FusionOFX.blacklist to FusionOFX.blocklist, so you only need to edit one file if there's a need to make future changes:
Code: Select all
tomj@Eddie ~/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/Fusion/Profiles/Default $ ls -al FusionOFX*
lrwxr-xr-x  1 tomj  staff    19B 17 Sep 18:01 FusionOFX.blacklist -> FusionOFX.blocklist
-rw-r--r--  1 tomj  staff   8.2K 17 Jun 15:19 FusionOFX.blocklist

Hey everyone,
I also have this issue. I have the blocklist file but don't know where to put it. I'm on windows 10.
Thanks!

Edit: I found it in the roaming folder. hit WIN + R and paste the path into the search box.

UPDATE: The issue where these Universe plugins cause a crash when loading the software seems to be caused by a 'time out' issue (trying to load too many new OFX plugins at once), rather than an actual incompatibility. The problem can be circumvented by first removing ALL of the plugins from the folder:

"C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins\Red Giant Universe"

Then, copy them back into the folder either ONE AT A TIME or in batches of 10 or less at a time, opening the app after each batch is copied. This allows the app to load the plugin details incrementally, without 'timing out' during the start-up phase. It also allows you to narrow down which plugin is causing a crash IF there is a corrupted or incompatible plugin in the mix. In my case, they all loaded perfectly fine, once I copied the files in batches!

Cheers!
