FLAC and Lost Preview Monitor

PostSat Apr 21, 2018 10:38 pm

Win 10 Version 1709 Build 16299.371

Running DaVinci Resolve Studio v15.0.0b.032 (Windows/MSVC)

Flac chops up preview about 10 minutes down the timeline even while muted. Switching back to WAV. Almost sounds as if it is slowing down the playback more so than regular speed breaking up.

I lost the use of preview monitor today. Rebooted. Reseated HDMI Cable. Disabled and Renabled decklink mini monitor 4k via device manager which required another reboot.

I can't seem to attach files so here is the relevant error -
SyManager.DeckLink | INFO | 2018-04-21 15:07:22,429 | TranslateCfgToSDI 41, pulldown 0.

My advice would be to not use FLAC but instead convert the FLAC to WAV prior to import. The WAV will work much better since it requires no decoding per se in the CPU.

Yeah I did that. Figured out my monitor issue was just a timeline setting.

However, FLAC has far more headroom when the audio is overdriven. At least that is what it sounded like. Declipping a FLAC file produced far better results in Sound Forge Pro 12 then the same track in WAV format. As of right now for me VST plugins don't work in Resolve despite being enabled. That and the processing seems far more inaccurate than it should. Reducing gain in DR just destroyed the dynamics. So I found I had to get as close as I could in SFP to get the best output out of DR.

My CPU shouldn't be the problem. I have never pegged it. Highest I've ever seen it go is when running AME, it'll hit 80%. DR doesn't make it go past 40%.
