Studio beta license suggestion

PostTue May 01, 2018 1:05 am

It would be great if Blackmagic could implement a temporary Studio license for beta versions.

There are a number of reasons I can see why that would work well for everyone:

1. The studio versions would draw in a wider audience to beta test. Production environments are less likely to spend time testing non-stable versions anyway and wouldn't be using a beta version just to save money (since they most likely already use Studio).

2. Could lead to more Davinci Studio sales from those people trying out beta versions and finding they can't live without Studio features.

3. All the people, like me, that had resolved to buy the Studio version but have pre-ordered the BMPCC 4K and now have to wait for the camera to access Studio.

In my case, I had decided to buy Studio once Linux system audio was supported, but then the BMPCC4K was announced at the same time. So having access to Studio now via some time limited license key, that works for beta versions at least, would seem to me a suitable reward for beta testing (and for those who are waiting for the BMPCC4K).

Call me crazy, but just spend the damn money. $299 is a trivial expense in the grand scheme of things. And if you're in this seriously, you will eventually need a second dongle, if only as a backup. They're available for less than $299 on eBay.

I think you will find that there is a growing number of non-professionals on here. I am not likely to need two licenses at home, there is no 'grand scheme' with multiple people working on a project. That $US299 is money that could go towards other gear for my hobby.

I don't see why BMD should be expected to give away more stuff to support someones hobby. Seriously, the free version is crazy good, $299 is dirt cheap for the full blown get everything version.

BMD haven't asked us to be beta testers, they have allowed us to try the betas if we want - they don't owe us free usage as a thank you.

I get that $299 for a hobbyist is a decent amount of money but its not up to one of the industry leaders to help you partake in your hobby for free.

just saying

People want everything for free these days, especially if it's software. And that's for the ego factor of "studio" version, not that most hobbyists will ever use the free version to it's limits. I guess if you buy the studio version you will open a new topic complaining how it doesn't eat up as many video formats as Premiere.
