DaVinci Resolve 15 Studio and Low FPS issue

PostSun Apr 22, 2018 2:30 pm

Hello community and I hope, I have found the right forum/thread for my question.

I am getting familiar with DR currently and from my point of view I have to be doing some (or some more) things wrong.

Windows 10 Creators Update
System:
Ryzen 1700x OC to 3.9 GHz
16 GB G.Skill RipJaws V schwarz DDR4-3200 DIMM CL16-18-18-38 Dual Kit @ 3.200 MHz
Two GPUs:
Gainward GTX 1060 6 GB and
PowerColor RX 480 8GB
Both slightly OC
Mainboard ASUS B350 Plus with Power Settings in BIOS.

Footage is a mix from 25 fps 1080i and 50 fps 1080p as MTS files (Sony Cams).
I do not have any color grading on the footage but Noise Reduction with settings:

Temporal: 3 Frames, Fast, Medium, 18.8 Luma, 0 Chroma
Spatial: Fast, Small and 7.4 Luma, 0 Chroma.

As you can see on the screenshot, I only get rendering at 5 FPS which would be understandable if CPU, GPUs or RAM are at their limits, but they actually are not, not even close.

DR is set to OpenCL and I have manually selected both cards. I tried CUDA with GTX solo and OpenCL with RX 480 solo but nothing changed in the performance.

I have furthermore installed all latest drivers. Output for monitor is the RX480 card.

I'd appreciate any hint, tip or solution.

Thx in advance

Henrik

Temporal noise reduction has always been very demanding. But give version 14 a try on your hardware before judging it, a beta can always lack some optimization.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

Noise Reduction is a killer, I have a threadripper 1950X, 32GB RAM, 2 R7-370's (yeah I need to upgrade those to one good RP Duo or something) and I get preview of 5.5 fps. However rendering just about 2 hours of 1080 60p only took 20 hours. Works out to be about 10 frames per second. That's going to Cineform YUV Best to later do multicam. Which then I discovered I had to use Adobe Media Encoder to convert to 6mbps MP4 for proxy, because for some reason when doing multicam, playback slows to a crawl and not even "optimized media" get's the performance good enough.

I agree about the 14 comment by Uli, I didn't have any playback issues I wasn't expecting. My system played my Sony AVCHD footage just fine before I rendered it to CineForm.

Just disable corrections until just before render.

I really don't think that resolve like using two so different cards.

Can you try leaving only the gtx 1060 (Or the other, does not matter) and try with a single gpu as a test?

Walter is correct. It may not relate to your problem but please use one type of GPU.

Thx for the comments.

Regarding the two different GPUs:

I tried both in single use but no change at all or any gain in speed etc. Hence, when I was using different things in DR I recognized that for one part the GTX is used more frequently, for others the RX480. So I think it is just that NR takes a lot of load and processing which is not directly related to my setup or DR itself.

Best regards

Henrik
