Rendering hangs frequently

I'm trying to render out a film right now, and it's hanging constantly. The first time I tried this it worked fine back in January on the same machine, but since about February I haven't been able to get a reliable render. Updating to v15 (latest beta) hasn't changed anything in this regard.

The system is an HP Spectre X360, quad core, 16GB with an external 1080Ti in a Razer Core connected via ThunderBolt 3. I know it's underspec for this, but the slow rendering time wouldn't be a problem if it ran without crashing like it did when I first tested it (got 5-6 renders out in a row without a hitch).

There are no crashes or forced kills of the Resolve app logged in any of the logs.

It's just hanging during the render? Then what do you do? There have been no successful renders recently?

Looks like you have updated to Windows build 1803? Is it possible that's when your renders stopped working?

Others have reported various issues after the 1803 update. Plus, you have a somewhat unusual config, with the Razer Core chassis.

I wanted to look at your project, but what you sent is bad. What's in the drp package is nothing like what should be in it, so it won't even think about importing. Perhaps you can export the project again, and then verify that you can import it, before posting a link to it?

The renders were hanging before that Windows update, so I don't think so. These have been completely hanging Windows, so I've had no option but to hard reset the machine.

I'm uploading copy of the project file there. It's almost done uploading and imported into a new DB successfully.

I tried lowering the render resolution to 1/2 res and even started it on the problem clip, and it still hung the system on the same frame. Same result with DPX output and HQX output. It's always the same frame. It makes no sense. I was able to render that frame when I did my first tests (rendered the entire movie at full res premium resolution while I was still working on the color grade, and it took 14 hours, but it completed). Now... it's hanging on the same frame EVERY time. The clip that is currently the in point for job 6 is the one that the render hangs on. I got it to render up to that point, and I can skip that clip and render beyond it (until the next hang), but I can't get it to render that one clip still.

I'm going to try render caching it and rendering using the cache for that one clip while you're checking out the project, but I don't know what else I can try.

Looking at your project, my suspicion would be the Sapphire plugins you are using.

We don't have any confirmation those work in 15 (and others have reported issues). And they also could have been causing issues in 14. Do you have the latest GenArts versions installed?

I'll check the plugin versions and make sure that I am in fact up to date. I thought I was, but it's possible that I've gotten behind.

My Sapphire was in fact up to date, but it was the Sapphire OFX plugin on that clip that was hanging. Disabled, it still hung the machine, but when I removed the Sapphire plugin from that clip (changed nothing else) it rendered through.

That's a bummer because the Sapphire effects are quite nice, but at least I'm able to render again. I suspect that it will hang on another clip with that same lighting effect, but at least it's working.

And odd -- because there are some clips that rendered fine with the same effect applied. I'll have to contact Boris and let them know about this in the hopes that you and they can get it sorted.
