Trouble with Insert Edit

PostWed May 09, 2018 4:42 pm

This one has me stumped and I'm sure it is PBKAC (person between keyboard and chair). When I go to do an insert edit by dragging a clip from the source window to the Program window Resolve puts the clip at the head of the timeline.

To be clear I position the playhead where I want the insert to take place, I select the clip and give in an in and out point in the source window and then drag it to the insert icon the slides into view on the right side of the program window. And then BAM the clip is inserted at at 0:00. Same thing happens when I use my mouse to select the insert icon above the timeline and drag the clip to the timeline.

As always your help is appreciated and valued.

Well... I don't know.

I have yet to figure how out to properly use the draggable grey bar at the top of the timeline window. When I moved the left grab point to the portion on the timeline where I wanted the insert edit to happen - bingo! It happened but I know there must be a quicker way.

What is the gray bar called so I can look it up in the documentation or search for a video on it? I need to grock it so I can use it properly.

And thank you for responding to my newbie questions Patrick... I really do appreciate the help :-)

That grey bar is just an in to out area you have marked in the timeline. You may have touched the I or the O key inadvertently while the the right window was active. It is the area where you want your inserted clip to go and you could even use "Fit toFill" (speed change).

But you don't really need to set any cut points there: if nothing is marked, your insert will go to current position of the playhead.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.
