Importing AVCHD

I can't seem to import AVCHD into DVR 14. FWIW, they are from 2 different canon Vixia model cameras. I know there is content within the file. Currently, I am trying to imort via File>Import Media and selecting the file that I had saved from the SD card to my iMAC. The reason I am trying to do it that way is because when I import direct from my SD card, when I remove the card, the files are not saved to my HDD. I was trying to do it from referencing a file stored on my HDD so it would not be lost. Any help is appreciated

Always copy the whole card, not just video files, for AVCHD. The file structure matters.

Can you point me in the direction of a tutorial of the clone tool?

What I would REALLY like to do is to save just the clips directly relevant to the project. By importing the whole card, then I will wind up with videos that are not needed for this project and really balloon the amount of storage I am using.

I have had no problem importing and using .mts files into Resolve, but I do transfer them from the SD card to my HDD first. Then I import them into the edit via the Media page by dragging and dropping from the HDD. No problem with the audio either.

I use tsmuxer to transfer from sd card from a Canon Vixia to desktop. Point tsmuxer at the playlist file on the card and it will copy all spanned files to one m2ts file.

MTS files are intended for distribution, not for post. For a lot of reasons, they're not very good for editing or color. I would strongly advise that you convert them to a simpler format for post, like DNxHD or ProRes.
