Rendering UHD/4K in 15 free beta.

PostMon May 14, 2018 9:13 am

Hello. I've decided to edit my new shortfilm completely in Resolve 15. I have the free beta version.

When I import my 4K clips into a timeline it automatically turns into a 1080p project and I know this is because I don't have the studio version. My question however is will there be a loss in quality if I render my 1080p timeline to UHD or 4K since the clips are 4K from the beginning?

You should be able to set the timeline to 4K even in the free version. I know, because I am doing the same thing :-). However, you have to do this before you import your footage.

As for your question: I am also curious what the answer to your question is... I have asked myself the same thing.

AFAIK, the free version is limited to UHD, not 4K. That's a small difference, but it's not he same.
Scaling to a nearly identical resolution can look softer or may have more artifacts than scaling down from 4K to HDTV, which should simply look great.

What will be your delivery and what's your camera?
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.
