Loss of audio with AVCHD AC3 codec

PostWed May 16, 2018 8:27 am

I recently put a small project together in DR 15 Beta 2 with mixed footage. One camera using Quicktime H.264 with Linear PCM audio and the other using Panasonic's AVCHD with AC3 audio. All clips worked fine in Beta 2, but, having just downloaded and installed Beta 3, I find the AC3 clips do not play audio. Have we lost something in the version ?

Are you sure you haven't upgraded to Windows 10 version 1803? That update has broken AC3 audio.

Hello Dwaine,

will that issue be solved in the next beta?

Thanks

What Dwaine is referring to is that Windows update 1803 broke AC3 audio decode.

I have tried playing the clips in Windows Media Player and the audio works. This must mean that the issue lies inside Resolve and its relationship to Windows 10.

In Resolve Studio Beta 4 I can't playback AC3 audio in Canon AVCHD *.m2ts files.
I am running the latest windows version, but Edius, Windows Media Player and other programs can play back the files just fine.

if you have Windows 10 version 1803, AC3 audio is not going to work in Resolve.

We continue to investigate if there is something we can do from our end to mitigate the change Microsoft made that created the issue.

if it turns out there is something we can do from our end, that's only going to be available in a Resolve 15 release.

Hi Dwaine,

I am indeed running 1803.
I noticed that 1803 broke some other stuff for other programs as well, but I still find it strange that some much more basic/amateur software doesn't suffer from the same issue. I hope you'll be able to find a solution, because as it is right now, I can't use Resolve for editing any of my 50+ hours of original footage, that the competitor's product can handle. I'd love to transition to an all-in-one solution, but as of now I can't.

Others have reverted to 1709 to get around the issue for now.

Please download and install 15b5. It has a fix for the Windows 10 1803 AC3 audio issue.
