Bugs with Resolve 15 making it unusable

PostTue May 29, 2018 5:37 am

1. Leaving idle for 10 mins, then try to do anything, software hangs and times out
2. After about 15 minutes, saving causes hang
3. Won't even open on Windows 10 Pro anniversary edition OS
4. Panel (large) text keeps appearing and disappearing randomly
5. clicking on Fusion button causes crash

Idle bug means can't render full projects out for delivery.

You don’t mention which beta so can you try beta 4?

I have to say that, for me, I am surprised at how well the beta version works. I have been using Beta 3 on two different computers (same project and clips just moving it around to whatever machine I am using) and I have had very few problems. I am using Windows 10 latest version and a 1060 nVidia GPU and 32GB on the main machine. My footage is not too taxing - a combination of HD and SD being "super-resed".

Can you please post some logs? And provide your system details, GPU, RAM, etc.

Do you have project backups enabled? If yes could you please try turning it off just to rule that out.

Hi Katie,

Do you happen to have any energy saving options enabled in Windows? If so, try to disable them all and see to it that the disks, network card, USB etc. does not turn off after xx minutes. See if it makes any difference, I hope so!

Cheers,

thanks all.

Turning off all auto-save options seems to help. It's on autosave that the hang happens.
Which kinda sucks, but at least we can get stuff rendered out now.

However, we're now noticing other issues.

Can't play back 4K to external monitor. It shows when paused, but is black on playback.

Chroma shift on external monitoring on playback between pause and play (really upsetting all our colorists!)

We installed the latest version yesterday on all our machines, they're various spec.

Optimized media changes blanking
Chroma shift only happens in UHD, not in HD.

Happens in multiple suites.
All windows 10 machines.

Happy to send over logs if you like. But the logs aren't showing anything, as it's not fully crashing, just hanging. And the chroma and blanking shifts also aren't showing up in the logs.

I downloaded 15 last week and it was working fine. I had an issue today with some weird stuff during the edit - the timeline would just stop and not advance (neither spacebar or the "L") ... then links to the media started to go offline with the "Missing Media" warning graphic. Then, I could no longer "see" the source footage in the media room. The clips were there, but there were no video images - just a black box. I couldn't see video sources on the DR side OR on the hard drive side - NOTHING would play. Then, the system would just stop working. So I updated to 15b4 - and SAME THING. I can open the project - then do some quick edits and then I was even able to export one 30-second clip - but then back to the same problems and now I can't export anything. It just goes about :10 seconds and then freezes. I am on a MAC Trashcan. Mom OS High Sierra. Version 10.13.4. Processor 3.5G, 6-core, 32GB memory - has been working GREAT until I updated to 15.

I tried to go BACK to 14 (and had backed up the database) and even THAT would not work - It would not read the database I backed up on May 21 - just a few days ago. I have done ALL the standard stuff. Multiple re-installs - checked all my software updates - had all applications OFF and only running DR. This stuff just is not working. It sometimes takes 3 attempts to even launch it now.

tried to add my diagnostic file but it is "too big" --- 1.2 MB and limit is 1 MB that's brilliant. Thanks.

You can always post a link location.. with a space in the path so the forum does not see it as a link

Happy to take the time to create the link - but in the meantime, and more importantly - would love feedback from someone at BMD to help explain what the heck is happening with this new release????

This new release is just NOT working correctly. At all.

REALLY? Wow - so helpful and a bit of a veiled insult. I freakin know it is a Beta. It would be nice, however, if it would at least OPEN. But, hey, thanks for the super-insightful and oh, so constructive comment. No need for any further help after your witty reply.

Thank you, will try to get a posting of the diagnostic log. Tried to run a new one (so you can see most current issues) but now the program won't even open...

Will post when I have something.

It appears that you have Boris CONTINUUM 9 OFX plugins in use, causing the crashing.

Those are quite old at this point, since they are now on version 11. So it would not be surprising that those might cause issues.

My reply wasn't intended to be witty, I'm not here to score points. Despite your protestations you didn't seem to realise this was a Beta with at least 3 more months of development time before it's actually released, you seemed to be having a go at BMD, and so my post was merely to DEFEND THEM, from the kind of people on these forums who make quite unreasonable demands, often to do with the software but sometimes of the developers themselves. "more importantly - would love feedback from someone at BMD to help explain what the heck is happening with this new release????" -really?? What do you expect, a personal apology?? All they would say is that it's still months from release and they are working hard to resolve any issues.

I've helped plenty of people on these forums through issues they were having and thanks to my extensive bug reports and feedback there are a lot fewer problems with the software than there could be, so I could really do without disrespectful people like you with your childish and immature sarcasm.
