Repeated Crashing on Mac Mini - Is it the Mac's fault?

PostFri Jun 01, 2018 6:34 pm

Yes, I know my main problem is probably that I am using a Mac Mini, but hear me out.

I am currently using version 14.0.0.078. Here are my Mac's specs:

Mac Mini (Late 2012)
High Sierra
Version 10.13.4
Processor is 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
Graphics : Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB
16 GB of Ram
I also have a terabyte hard drive that that has about 500 GB open.
No external drives.

My Resolve log can be found here: https://goo.gl/9bMSXr

My problem is repeated crashing. This has happened in primarily the edit page, but I feel that a similar story would happen in the color and export pages. While programs like Hitfilm run fine on it, all Resolve seems to do now is crash after an average of 30 seconds of use. Resolve always had a similar problem during 12.5, with it crashing every once and awhile, but it had only gotten worse by updating it. What's even weirder is that I am editing in standard definition, unlike the couple of projects I used HD It's possible that I have a setting turned on that would cause this to happen, but with so many settings I am not familiar with, it could be anything.

Is there anything that can be done to fix this? If there is anything I can do to fix this problem without spend any money, that would be great. I am afraid to update to the beta of Resolve 15 because I feel like it will make the problem worse, with even more factors to bog down my machine.

If anyone could give me any advice, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Michael

The Intel Iris GPU is not really up to it. While an amateur program like Hitfilm may run fine on it, Resolve is very resource hungry, since it works in very high quality internally.

But since you are under High Sierra, you could try switching from OpenCL to Metal for the GPU or vice versa. It may work for some basic tasks in HD.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.
