Subtitles in b4 -- YAAY

PostMon Jun 04, 2018 2:49 am

I'm very happy that subtitles have been added
(sooo happy omg really....)

&
yeah having track style for subtitles is brilliant --> along with clip settings
I'm sure people will be using this for super fast lower thirds almost out of the gate
when people get it

But a few of the parameters seem to be not working ( yah beta GO! )

Opacity in the Character Transform
does nothing

Blur in the Drop Shadow works
but needs to go beyond 100
(it does not get blurry enough : need to get to "300-ish at least")

Stroke needs finer adjustment
0 to 1 is too large a jump
need .25 .5 .75
(sounds crazy but yeah if doing non complimentary color sets)
and opacity please

I understand the difficulty here
is that the specifications for SRT's don't necessarily have the ability to understand these settings

But there are TWO immediate use cases
one is when one is making SRT's only (with inherent limitations) a "fixed" format
and one is when making burned-in subtitles for a program [final output]

as SRT is not a fixed format
But
this is a chance for Blackmagic to help define a format
inclusion of Italics <I> and bold <b> are two cases where there are some systems do and some don't recognize the formatting
but if Blackmagic adhered to the srtalliance spec that would go a LONG way to helping the community
https://www.srtalliance.org/members/

perhaps if the SRT format variables could all be put in one single menu
and the rest in separate menus then both use cases could live side by side

and BM-gang
thanks
thanks for the system you are developing
(its made me happy about editing again after a long frustration)
and thanks for listening to your users
it is so rare to see such a responsive company - in a long time
keep leaning into the process as you have been
