15b5 Step One Frame Forward or Reverse bugged?

PostSun Jul 01, 2018 5:33 am

This is a weird one. I bound the "Step One / Frame forward and reverse" command to my left and right arrow keys - because naturally, I want to be able to navigate in single frames on the timeline for precise cutting. But the frame forward / reverse command does not work on the Edit tab unless I click on the Edit Tab button (literally) - then it works. Any time I leave the timeline, say to go to Color and back - I have to repeat this ritual to get it to work again.

If I do NOT click the edit tab - my left/right arrow keys do other unwanted actions. If I click on a clip itself, the arrow keys do nothing. If I click in an empty space in the timeline - the whole timeline scrolls in frame increments left and right. If I click above my blue render bar in the timecode area - the arrow keys do nothing.

So in summary - in order to shuttle forward or backward in one frame increments - it seems there is a bug that forces the user to click on the edit tab before being able to use this function.

This keyboard focus issue is long-standing, in Windows.... Cursor focus remains in the prior page (typically Media or Color Page), after switching to Edit. Without a ctrl-3 or mouse click, the cursor keys will be operating on clips in the prior page.

The other behaviors reported by the OP aren't familiar, however.

The only way around this continuing frustration was creating an autohotkey routine which, with one keystroke, switches to the Edit page, releases any current selection and ctrl-3 clicks. Cursor keys (next/previous clip and frame stepping) will then be operating in Edit page, not the prior page. This particular routine also defeats Resolve's persistent selection design -- next/previous clip is always relative to current playhead position, not to any previously selected clip. Other tastes may differ.

Thanks Icarus, I have precisely the same issue and am glad at least you have found work around, this has been driving me crazy. Such a simple, necessary function.
The weird thing with this one is that my Mac Pro does not have the problem but my I mac does.

This bug if it is one, occurs with the default shortcuts also.

Howdy, just changed my track height on my timeline on my mac pro and lost the step 1 frame left or right with the arrow keys  not sure if that is the cause.

So it happens on both my systems

I tried to trigger the problem on my iMac (2017, 8 GB GPU) but can't reproduce your issue, my arrow keys are working fine. But what do you mean by having to click on the Edit tab? I can switch between the tabs with the keyboard commands just fine and still have the functionality.

Edit: played around bit more and there obviously is an issue.
If I switch to the Deliver tab via keyboard, the arrow keys are moving the cursor in the timeline, but the clip in the viewer is standing still. JKL still works, though. Switching the timeline display makes the arrow keys function normally.

As Icarus mentioned, if you get the issue then this is a fix... and yes you could click or use a keyboard command to actuate the edit tab, I don't think it matters.

For the record, this behavior is not the same in Mac and Windows. As far as I know, there is no "fix" in Windows (other than either clicking the the timeline or ctrl-3), and some people don't see it all on Mac.
