Resolve doesn't work on GPU, but works on Intel graphics

PostSat Jun 09, 2018 3:35 pm

Hello everyone,

First of all let me apologize for my bad english and for the long message.

I've been using Resolve for almost 2 years, without any problems. 2 weeks ago, one of the fans from my GPU (Nvidia GTX 970) had a problem, so I removed the GPU from my PC case, and kept using my PC with the Intel HD graphics 530 from the CPU (Intel I5 6600K) while waiting for replacement parts to be delivered.

During this short period of time, I used Resolve several times, and it ran flawlessly on the Intel HD graphics 530. However, since I reinstalled my GPU, Resolve simply won't open ! I reinstalled it multiple times (tried different versions), updated all of my drivers, tried running it as admin, but to avail.

When I click on the Resolve icon, I get the "welcome" screen (the first time after a new install), but afterwards, no loading screen, no error message, nothing !

But I can see in the task manager that Resolve is running in the background.

I tried removing my GPU once again, to see if it changed anything. And Resolve started immediatly ! So the issue probably has something to do with the GPU and the integrated graphics, but I can't find any way to fix it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

What is the processing set to? The Intel GPU can only do OpenCL, while the Nvidia is capable of CUDA.
Maybe it's set to Auto, but the right drivers are missing?
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

I've tried setting it to both Cuda and openCL (while Resolve was open on my CPU graphics), but it didn't change anything after trying to start Resolve with my GPU.

My GPU card experience, especially in the video editing world is short but ugly. Sometimes the best general Registry or uninstall apps software can miss something causing issues. I have had very good experiences with:

Disk Driver Uninstaller - Free, IIRC, but welcome Donations. I have no ties with them, just a very happy user. Most effective if used in Safe Mode, again, from my experience and their directions.

As per their README.TXT, "Requirement:
-Windows XP up to Windows 10 Creator update 1803 (anything higher is at your own risk)
-NVIDIA, AMD, Intel GPUs
-Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 or higher

Recommended usage:
-You should disconnect your internet or block Windows Updates.
-DDU should be used when having a problem uninstalling / installing a driver or when switching GPU brand.
-DDU should not be used every time you install a new driver unless you know what you are doing.
-The tool can be used in Normal mode but for absolute stability when using DDU, Safemode is always the best.
-If you are using DDU in normal mode, Clean, reboot, clean again, reboot.
-Make a backup or a system restore (but it should normally be pretty safe).
-It is best to exclude the DDU folder completely from any security software to avoid issues.

Thanks for your help everyone, I finally found a way to make Resolve start again. I went into my BIOS and enabled both the GPU and CPU graphics (they're now running at the same time), and now Davinci Resolve starts without any issue. The strange thing is that it only detects my GPU, but well, it works and I'm happy about that !

But I know that not all Motherboards have this option, so here's my log, to help finding out where the problem really comes from : https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Y6z_B ... jSBLC8x2kh

I've had this exact problem, just that instead of using my old GPU I took the one from my other computer it's the same exact GPU just another one (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB). I've tried the same things (uninstalling, re-installing...) the only thing that's not the same is the fact that I never opened resolve while not having my GPU (I didn't put in my other at first as the original was on repair, but didn't get fixed).
