Color wheel dials range confined to mouse screen space

PostThu Jul 05, 2018 4:10 am

Hello all

New to Resolve and to this forum. Getting my bearings still.

I noticed that when dragging the dial beneath a color wheel, the control stops responding once the mouse pointer reaches the edge of the screen.
This should not be - once the user clicks and holds on the dial and starts sliding, the code should disregard screen space entirely and allow an infinite adjustment left or right.

This is particularly acute with the left most color wheel as it sits close to the left edge of screen.
Any way this can be addressed in an update?

Thanks!
M

I agree with you to a point: there are quite a few mouse-only adjustments where it's much too easy to slip out of the "zone" and not see any incremental change when the mouse is moved. This has been an annoyance for quite a few years.

If you're doing color adjustments, I strongly recommend you use an external control panel. There are affordable ones out there for as little as $200-$300, and it's a lot easier to use those than a mouse for color. The other benefit is that you can use two knobs at the same time, which is useful for certain kinds of contrast adjustment and working quickly.

other software has ui overlays for mouse/wacom control, allowing very fine adjsutments and a wide range of adjustment on offer

not implemented in Resolve, it really is focused on using a surface,

try Baselight Editions, or the upcoming Nucoda Academy to get a feel for how one can grade effectivly with a mouse/wacom only

Resolve without a surface is a painful experience in medrociaty due to the lack of fine control, not recomended!

This doesn't happen on Windows. I can completely overdrive any of the colour wheels to extreme amounts of correction -- and back. I suspect this is a macOS issue-- try installing Boot Camp and report back on your results in the Windows version of Resolve.

I'm using Windows 10, and am encountering the problem... I'm running Studio 15 beta.
Maybe it is something specific to my monitors config? Either way, it shouldn't happen...

Thanks! I was unaware there were control surfaces that cheap. I'll look into it...

Actually, it's a problem on everything, particularly text size, position, matte size, window size, all kinds of stuff. Basically for me, the "window" in which the cursor is sensitive is too narrow (to me). The action is fine on an external panel, but the moment you have to use a mouse, it can get very fiddly. It seems to get more fiddly, the more tired I am, so there is that.
