This is very unfortunate as it 1) breaks the keyboard mapping for the built-in Avid shortcuts, and 2) severely limits the power user.
In Avid, the top number keys 1, 2, 3 and 4 go forward and back (multiple and single) frames. It's designed this way to allow the "left hand keyboard, right hand mouse" that's been proven for decades to be extremely efficient. (we then use the rest of the numbers (5 through 0) as personal shortcuts.)
Using Resolve's Avid keyboard shortcuts, using the menu to choose "Playback" > "Step One" > "Frame Forward 4" works fine, then after that, pressing top number 1, 2, 3 and 4 work fine... until you click on the timeline.
The current workarounds are to click on the icon area above or below the timeline, scopes, master bins, or other blank areas, then the Avid keyboard shortcuts work again (until you click the timeline).
One solution is the same as other software uses: differentiate in the Keyboard Mapping the numpad keys vs the top number keys. This way if a laptop or 10key-less user wants to use direct timecode input, they can (by not assigning shortcuts to the top number keys)... and power users and Avid editors can use top number keys for shortcuts and stepping forward/backward.
Please reconsider and enable us Avid users the ability to go between systems without breaking a 20-year-old muscle memory.
Thanks!
