AVCHD 5.1 and AAF/XML....

PostMon Jul 09, 2018 6:10 am

Hi. I decided I would take the plunge and get to know DR15.

I decided to use an unfinished home movie project to get in and familiarise myself. The project is running about 2 hours (we take our home movies seriously!). It is shot on a Sony handycam AVCHD 8 bit with AC3/5.1 audio. I started the edit in PP and so I did an AAF. The AAF imported and the footage that I had made available was doing all the right stuff on the timeline. The audio was not. In PP, the audio was occupying 1 track, a 5.1 track that shows all 6 tracks within it. The imported timeline in DR15 shows 6 mono tracks under each shot. Each audio clip is red - missing media. If I click the clip from the Media Pool into the source viewer, the audio is there. If i drag the clip into a new timeline the audio is there and flagged 5.1. If I double click the video in the AAF import the vision reveals in the source viewer but there is no audio there.

Tell me it's finger trouble, please!

This is just a little speed bump. DR15 is looking like the bees knees and I am sure I am not alone in congratulating the DR dev team for whipping up magic!

So, I guess, AAF and XML import options don’t support AC3/5.1 and I will need to transcode it all?
