14.1.1 - Does Not Open

PostTue Dec 05, 2017 7:03 am

Hi,

I have been using Resolve for approximately a month and originally downloaded the free 14.0 version. There have been no issues. I am a beginner.

Today I tried to open Resolve and it does not get past the Project screen. I have tried to install the latest version and that still does not work, nor does setting GPU to OpenCL. It is worth noting that everything was working absolutely fine on my laptop with the Intel HD Graphics 620 card. I have changed nothing on my laptop and all of a sudden it stops working which is very disappointing.

When re-installing I notice the CMD box opens up (very briefly) and I can see Windows Firewall error. I have allowed Resolve through the Firewall manually. I am getting no where.

The log file is here - https://1drv.ms/t/s!AjeePV1C9dYdinjW0O5XEXk8Paql

Here are my specs:

Dell Inspiron 13 5378
Windows 10
Intel Core i7-7500 CPU @ 2.70 GHz
RAM - 16GB

I hope someone can help as I was in the process of editing travel videos!

Thanks

Jamie

ps If I've missed any required information, I'm sorry!

this sounds exactly like to problem I encountered.

Have you recently updated to Windows 10 version 1709? DaVinci Resolve 14 did run on my laptop but stopped working (exactly what you describe, crashing after the project screen) once I had updated to the latest Windows 10 version. I had GPU related issues with other applications after the upgrade and reinstalled the latest NVidia drivers multiple times in order to make those apps work again. This problem is only on a laptop, where there are two GPUs - the integrated Intel GPU and the dedicated NVidia GPU, somehow the integrated GPU is used by default instead of the dedicated, more powerful one.

My specs:
Intel Core i7-4710HQ 2.50 GHz-3.50 GHz
16 GB RAM
500 GB SSD
Intel HD Graphics 4600
NVidia Geforce GTX 850M

I similarly have experienced the same problem ever since Resolve was updated to version 14.1 (including v14.1.1). See my related post as Jerry Suppan, posted Dec.5 1200 p.m. (I am told I am not allowed to post URLs)

I was running it before just fine until 14.0.1 but since this incremental update to 14.1 it is now defunct. N.G. The problem is with an OpenCL error.

Apparently whatever tweaks or changes BMD made to this latest incremental version cripples the loading of Resolve, so I uninstalled and seeking alternate NLE solutions. If there is a fix forthcoming that would be nice but who knows if/when ... If anyone has a solution to the problem I am listening.

My equipment:
Intel Skull Canyon, Core i7-6770HQ 16GB RAM, 1TB M.2 SSD, Intel Iris Pro Graphics 580

@Jamie: Please open a Windows File Explorer window and go to this location:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

Then run CaptureLogs and put the resulting file on your OneDrive storage and provide a link to that.

Does sharing that file help me at all with the OpenCL problem I have?

Hi.

FWIW department....

Blackmagic and Iris? Graphics: A Match Made at Intel
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1zGXjGTpis&t=5s

According to this video Intel's Skull Canyon should be able to launch DaVinci Resolve and at least use the program without having to consider the loops and hurdles of an eGPU. Maybe a year ago this match was made at Intel in conjunction with Blackmagic collaboration and cooperation, but it does not apply any longer.

@Jerry: You should have seen this message displayed:

Urgent message: CRITICAL_PREF: DaVinci Resolve could not find any OpenCL capable GPUs. Would you like to review and update your DaVinci Resolve Hardware Configuration? ||Please ensure that appropriate GPU drivers are installed and your DaVinci Resolve hardware is configured appropriately.

If it was working with 14.0.1, does it still work with 14.0.1?

Actually, since 14.0.1 I subsequently downloaded and installed 14.1.1 (and 14.2 for that matter) I already deleted the copy of the 14.0.1 I had on my server. So, I no longer have the ability to go uninstall and reinstall the earlier version. I just assumed a later version would just automatically be a better version and did not think of possible incompatibility issues. My mistake.

Yes, that is the exact message that displays.

FAO Dwaine: I was also using DaVinci Resolve 14 (free version) for a few weeks - and loving it (albeit as a beginner). It then stopped working. When I tried to open a saved project or new project, I just got a white screen with the project name and Resolve logo in the top left corner. I'm using a new Dell Inspiron 15 7000 laptop, kindly donated by Dell to help with our nature conservation work.

Duwayne of the UK tech support tried to help by email, unsuccessfully. He has all of my details including logs, which I've now deleted, if you want to review my problem.

You're my last hope, Dwaine. If we can't get this sorted in the next few days, we'll very reluctantly have to switch to Vegas Pro Edit, which will be a shame because I already feel great loyalty to DaVinci Resolve and BlackMagic Design.

I was using DaVinci Resolve previously that was working up until 14.0 .1. But now with the latest iteration and version number of DaVinci Resolve it no longer works. So I myself am considering the switch to magix Vegas Pro as an alternative editor. What is really ironic is I actually got DaVinci to install and even load on my wife's very basic MacBook Air which is only 256 GB of storage SSD and only 8 gigabytes of RAM and it's a five-year-old machine around about 2013. Performance aside, at least DaVinci Resolve installs and even loads and can be used for editing. But my Intel skull Canyon which has much higher processor and 32 GB of RAM will not accept it. The main issue apparently is that the GPU cannot find opencl or something like that. So apparently it is a GPU issue with Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve.

@Jerry: All versions of Resolve back to 10.1.5 are available for download at the BMD web site Support page.

Please download 14.0.1 and see if it still works.

Hi Dwaine,

Good morning. Will do and will report back. For now, we are still into new year holidays, abig thing for Japan usually lasting through to January 4th, so I will need a bit more time. I will get back to you though.

As an aside, I am considering to purchase the ASUS Zenbook Pro UX550 machine as an alternative and relegate the Intel Skull Canyon to HTPC status in the living room. The ASUS specs have Core i7-7700, 32GB RAM, 1TB, and most importantly, GeForce 1050. Connected to my external 4K monitor, that graphics should do the trick.

Hi Dwaine,

In followup I finally got DaVinci Resolve to work with the latest version. In short, Microsoft is the culprit here. Full details and explanation can be reviewed at my Google Photos album on the matter.

Thanks to Mahesh Madhav for exposing the problem to me. He is the one who is the real miracle worker.

Hi All,

I had the same issue how I fixed it slightly differently. When a zip file is downloaded from the internet windows protects the file from doing malicious stuff. So I uninstalled resolve from my PC, re-downloaded the install file. Once downloaded I right clicked and went to properties and selected the option to unblock the file at the bottom of the properties screen. Then simply unzipped the file and installed as administrator and DaVinci is now opening and working fine.

Hope this helps.
