Installed 15, All Projects Gone

PostThu Jul 19, 2018 2:58 pm

Hello -

Yesterday I installed 15 Beta 6 on a Mac Pro, 10.13.5. I upgraded from 14.3. I didn't backup any projects from within 14 before doing the upgrade (I naively thought I could continue to use 14). After the install, upon starting 15, it reminded me that upgrading the database was irreversible, so at that point I did a backup of the database, Then I upgraded the database. The program started, and the projects that appeared in the Project Manager were from two years ago, nothing from recent months. I then re-installed 14, restored the database from backup, and it also had the projects from 2 years ago, nothing from recent months. Also, none of my recent keyboard settings and preferences.

I feel like the info must be somewhere else on my computer. It's possible that I was saving the projects/database elsewhere on my computer, and I have searched extensively, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Or where to look. Even now I am confused by the process Resolve uses for saving projects, so if I did re-direct my save location sometime in the past, I sure didn't know what I was doing.

If the missing database isn't elsewhere on my computer, then the only other possibility I can think of is that Resolve 15 completely blew it all out during the install and somehow accessed an old database, which is obviously a catastrophic problem. That seems so unlikely though, it seems as if someone else would have had the issue before me.

Where can I search for the old project/database/preferences? What type of files should I search for?

it sounds like your two year old projects are in the Postgres DB and the newer projects are in the Disk DB. The Disk DB location in your OS is:

/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Resolve Disk Database/

The files are somewhat human readable. Look around to see if you can find the names of your missing projects. You can also search this directory recursively. Make sure the search tool you're using also looks inside the files. I can't remember if project names are specifically exposed like for example, myProject.XML. If I remember correctly, the are inside of the files while the file names themselves are composed of GUIDs.

That was very helpful, thank you. I looked in the folder you mentioned, and everything there is the 2-year-old data, so I assume it's where Resolve is currently looking.

I found a file there called User.db . I did a search in System Files and came up with a User.db at the following path:

User>Library>Containers>com.blackmagic-design.DaVinciResolveLite>Data>Library>Application Support>Resolve Disk Database>User>Guest>

My missing projects are there. I copied the Resolve Disk Database folder and pointed Resolve to it, and it worked. I am able to open the projects I was working on.

Everything works good except for the clips from my Fs5, Resolve 15 can't read those, it's a known issue. So for my next trick, I'm going to downgrade to 14.3 and get on with my life!

Thanks again.
