Render Cache Performance

PostMon Jul 30, 2018 10:16 pm

I'm having some trouble getting smooth playback using the Render Cache in Studio 15b7 on Windows 10 Pro (1803).

The original media is cDNG from the Pocket, speed adjusted with some titles above.

I have the Cache set to an internal SSD with about 450 GB free space. I've tried both DNxHR LB and Cineform YUV at half resolution. But the cache just will not play in real time.

Is anyone successfully using the Cache to get smooth playback when the system just can't handle the effects?

Having the same problem with Optimized Media. I simply cannot get this slow motion clip with titles to play in real time.

What titles are you using? Can you remove them and see if it plays fine?

Thanks for chiming in Rohit.

I'm using the old Text titles, nothing involving Fusion. Disabling the track with the titles helped a little, but the slow motion clip still wasn't perfectly smooth. That can't be a render issue. Exporting the clip it plays buttery smooth. And it's not a hard drive throughput issue. I tried putting the Cache on both an SSD and my main Media drive. Playback of the Cache files only draws about 5 MB/s.

Resolve is simply incapable of playing it's own Cache files. It's got to be a code issue. There's just no part of my system that's being strained here.

Hi Jim,
Im a new user, can I ask what settings you are using/procedure you use to get things rendered.
I have a few issues myself with what would seem non processor intensive procedures.
I have to select my clips, right click, render cache clip source and make sure playback render cache is set to user. Then when all is blue/rendered all should be good. I cannot seem to keep that blue line stable, parts of it disappears and then it tries to re render. It could be operator error but thought I would check with you
Cheers
