Bin can't be sorted

PostSat Jul 21, 2018 7:30 pm

Dear All

I noticed that when I try to sort a bin by name (my favourite), absolutely nothing happens. Selecting one of the other sort options also doesn't result in any reshuffling of the clips inside. Tried saving, exit, then re-open and then the correct sort is selected, but the order remains the same and incorrect.

The names of the clips actually range from ...01 - ...42.

Mich.

When you right click a bin and select Sort By you sort the list of bins, not the contents of a bin. To sort the contents of a bin, click the header of the field you want to sort by.

on a different note, all clip with same time-code, and no tape id: that's spell disaster....

Roger, that works for list mode, but when I then change to icon mode the list remains sorted to the order in which I the clips were imported, i.e. the last clips to be added are down the bottom. I'd like the icon sorting to be the same as the list sorting. Is there a way to make that consistent?

Hmmm yes, interesting point Walter. I think that it is because I generally have to use ffmpeg to convert from a standard MP4 that comes from my camera or drone to a PRORES format that DR will accept. How would you normally get those in then? I can imagine timecodes are an attribute of the clip, but the tape id is something you assign yourself?

Timecode is written by the camera, some can even do it for MP4 (like Sony Alphas) and Resolve can read that.

If it's not there, you can use one of the many re-wrapping tools and have the generation time written instead, which is close enough for anything but sound syncing and keeps the footage unique and identifiable. Tape/reel names can be generated by Resolve, derived automatically from metadata, or you can put them in by yourself.

This is very helpful when organizing clips, but essential for any round-trip or offline/online process.

My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

Sorry, I'm not seeing that behavior in Beta 7 (tested on macOS). The sort order I set in list mode persists in icon mode, at least on the three different fields I tested.

Sorry, my mistake Roger: I took a quick look at a project with photos downloaded from Facebook and then all clips have very similar, numeric names. After adding a few different clips with unrelated names, it shows your method works like a chram and it IS consistent. Thx!!!

easiest way to assign a tape ID to a shot, is in the
[general options] - [assign reel names from the] - [ source clip filename]

from drone shots...

Decklink Studio 4K (12.4.1)
Resolve 19.1.3 / fusion studio 19
GPU 3090ti drivers 512.59 studio
