Best upgrade for Resolve 15 of workstation

PostMon Aug 06, 2018 9:39 pm

Hi,

I have a Dell T7910, I am looking to up grade components and wondering what will make the most difference for performance with V15 especially the fusion part.
1. increase dual 2678v3 2.5GHz-3.2GHz 12 core each to E5-2698 v4 20 core each
2. add second GTX1080ti
3. increase ram from 64 to 128G

and preferably not all 3.

Thanks in advance
Thanks,
Nick

While I don't know that particular system, a few hints, since it all depends on your typical tasks:

– More RAM would be needed for complex Fusion work.
– A second GPU will help with demanding effects like NR.
– More CPU cores will help with decoding of demanding codecs like R3D.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

There's no way to answer this without knowing more about what media you work with. My guess is that the second GPU would be best, since one 1080ti will definitely be the bottleneck at 4K for any NR.

Thanks for your replies,
I am basically making HD TVCs and doing a few 4K and 8k VR videos, all unfortunately h264, but mostly looking forward to using fusion within Resolve for basic 3d logo and text effects.
So really looks like all 3.
I might start with the GPU and RAM as they're the cheaper, and see how I go.
Thanks,
Nick
