Cmd/Ctrl+Shift dragging to Insert ignores snapping

Added support for performing an insert operation by holding Cmd/Ctrl+Shift while dragging clips from the media pool or source viewer

In Beta 8, we can now use the above key combo to insert as we drag to the timeline, however the snapping seems to be broken and thus you get no accuracy when you're trying to insert a clip or a generator this way.

The snap indicators show up, but as long as you're holding Ctrl+Shift, it doesn't snap as expected.

I am on Windows, and don't know if this is also how it behaves on macOS.

I'm seeing the same. Snapping works with Overwrite (CTRL+DRAG), but not for Insert (CTRL+SHIFT+DRAG).

Here under windows 10 + V15 beta 8 everything works properly
Drag from viewer source or CTRL + DRAG: the inserted clip overlaps clips already placed on the TL

Do not agree Jim,
CTRL + SHIFT + DRAG extends the duration of the TL: it is an addition and not an Overwrite.

I wrote about this when we got beta 7, which appears to be an associated issue...

Hi Jean Claude, thank you for your 'simple comment'. Of course, that point is appreciated, and that is why I gave the feedback in the beta forum. When I contacted support on this, they gave me the following reply: -

The development team has confirmed that the behaviour seen in beta 7 is by design.
However, we are always open to feedback from our customers, and the team will monitor the feedback.

So, I feel it best to continue to give them feedback...

He said SNAPPING does not work. Which is true, it doesn't for the insert edit. He wasn't disputing that insert editing works overall.

Look at the GIFs. In the first one, you see the snapping indicators appear. In the second, they don't.

Hi there, so I know this is slightly different from the main issue of this thread, but I think it is associated with it. Here are three GIFs that show the three modes of operation we had prior to beta 7: -

If you look at the first GIF, just see how useful and easy it 'was' to shuffle a clip between other clips. The above has been a feature at least from version 14 (see page 357 in the manual). In addition, the design was such that the modifier keys in feature 1 above also fitted in with the additional Ctrl-Shift- comma and period used to shift a whole clip left and right.

From beta 7 onwards we have lost entirely feature 1, and now Ctrl-Shift-Drag is changed to replicate what we had before with Ctrl-Alt-Drag.

I think it's the loss of quite an important feature. Taking away this feature will decrease the confidence in making a clean swap, forcing you to pay more attention to the process than previously necessary. It needs to come back.

Yes, I find it now particularly hard to ensure I have released the mouse button just at the right time when shuffling a clip. One has to zoom in before doing the move, even with the snapping enabled, to ensure one drops the clip 'between' and not mistakenly 'on top' of another clip. One now has to be so much more precise. It was just so much easier before.

What I just don't understand is that we haven't gained a new feature. They have just deleted some functionality and assigned one of the previously available functions to that key combination. In terms of logic, we had functions A, B and C; function A, arguably the most useful, was deleted, and function B is now assigned as function A. It doesn't make sense at all.

Let's hope the developers hear our hopes...
